Originally, Young was not going to tour behind Silver and Gold, but he began a twenty-eight-date trek with the Pretenders on Aug. 8. That tour ends on Sept. 22 after a three-night stand at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater. The Pretenders couldn't make the new dates, so Crow will open the Sept. 24 show at Phoenix's Desert Sky Pavilion, while Beck will take over for the final four shows: Coors Amphitheater in Chula Vista, Calif., Sept. 25; Country Bowl in Santa Barbara, Calif., Sept. 27; the Rose Garden in Portland Ore., Sept. 30; and General Motors Place in Vancouver, B.C., Oct. 1. For Beck the opening gigs will provide a bit of a Young warm-up stint, as he be playing at the Young-founded Bridge School Benefit on Oct. 28 and 29. As for Young, he will continue to perform with his mix-and-match batch of session aces, including pianist Spooner Oldham, bassist Duck Dunn, drummer Jim Keltner and pedal steel/dobro picker Ben Keith. ANDREW DANSBY (August 31, 2000) >> << Beck and Sheryl Crow Opening For Neil Young (8/31/00, 5 p.m. ET) - It's not enough that Beck will be making an appearance at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit on Oct. 28 and 29. Now he's decided to open the last four shows for the godfather of grunge on Young's Silver And Gold tour. Young extended the tour and still needed to fill the a slot for Phoenix on Sept. 24, and Sheryl Crow was there to fit the bill. The Pretenders had been opening for Young, but they couldn't make the commitment past the initial tour wrap-up date of Sept. 22. Crow will be playing a benefit for Al Gore on Sept. 14 in New York City, and she'll be part of the Stevie Nicks and friends concert in Phoenix on Sept. 23, one night before opening for Young. Young's dates with Beck are as follows (subject to change): 9/25 - Chula Vista, CA - Coors Amphitheater 9/27 - Santa Barbara, CA - Santa Barbara Bowl 9/30 - Portland, OR - Rose Garden Arena 10/1 - Vancouver, BC - General Motors Place -- Darren Davis, New York >> ===== http://www.sherylcrow.fr.fm Sometimes when it's quiet, i'm an angel in white . . .
