I've heard some good things about them, so I'll probably check them out. Your opinion seems to be in the minority. >> Sometimes the majority isn't always right. I've always liked the quote "When I see 1000 people headed in one direction, I'll run the opposite way" or something to that effect. Sheryl's pretty good friends with Gwyneth, so it was probably a fun night out. Listen, all I'm saying is...I'm tired of people thinking Travis is the end-all to all rock bands. I guess my problem is I've heard a TON of BRILLIANT and BEAUTIFUL music and Travis just pales in comparison. I don't understand the Radiohead comparisons. Radiohead is much more deep and abstract than Travis. Travis is great background music--nice for cooking or walking the dog. I've seen them four times in the past year, I've met them three times, they are very nice guys. They're just boring, that's all. You might want to keep an ear out for a band called Coldplay if Travis is your thing. They are very similar and have an album coming out in October. By the way, Nick Drake is beautiful. Pink Moon is one the most depressing things I've heard. And in the UK, there is a great debate over Travis. A lot of people love them, a lot of people hate them. Personally, after listening to and seeing a band like the Verve live, I can't see how Travis is the answer to anything that is wrong with music today. luv Patty ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 13:22:07 MDT From: "Makinzy H." Is it just me or does "Sexiest Female 'ARTIST'" not sound right for those two? Sheryl should've been #1 but people are stupid and voted for them. Oh well....we know who really should've one. - -Makinzy ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 22:20:03 +0200 From: Brigitte and/or Michael Subject: [sheryl-crew] Looking for Jenny Renaut Please e-mail me, I found the scans for the Heather Nova interview online. It's not the "complete" version with the four extra tracks or whatever, but mine includes live versions of Leaving Las Vegas, Volvo Cowgirl, All I Wanna Do, and Run Baby Run. So anyway, I found the album to be veeery 80's. It's totally different from her other stuff. But it was very interesting to hear. Favorites: Near Me, You Want it All, All Kinds of People, Father Son, Indian Summer. If you have it/heard it, I'm curious to know what you think of it. erin ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 01:33:34 IDT From: "Na'ama Berger" Subject: [sheryl-crew] MP3 Hey Everybody, Thanks for the welcomes. I got flamed! LOL... that almost never happens. Honestly, I don't believe that I deserved this comment (but I could be wrong!). I was probably misunderstood in my direction: It is obvious that her albums and songs are mass produced, and heard worldwide, BUT Sheryl does have a wide range of the musical spectrum going for her. That's what I was getting at. I know of many indie artists who do experiment and have creative control over their music because they don't have the pressure of major labels to make them sell 10 million records. And that's exactly why they're on indie labels, because of the freedom to create the music that they love. Many people who are on major record labels have taken heat, especially from interscope, as to trash good songs, and make "hit singles". In fact, that's been happening for a long time (I'm sure Mozart had pressure from his father & the royals, being the first rock star and all...), but it's become more evident in these last few years because of the pressure to sell, artists speaking for themselves, and give in to music that doesn't even deserve to be called that. There was an artist, I forgot who, who even claimed that she overheard Interscope reps. talking about Sheryl's TGS as a "dissapointment" because it didn't sell the ten million that bubble gum pop stars, or rap/metal acts sell now. It is dissapointing when a record label can't appreciate musical talent when they find it, but they've always only been interested in sales, haven't they? It is something that does happen, and has happened, but that doesn't mean we have to accept that. I was probably just misunderstood. But if you don't agree as to her wide range of music, go listen to "Good Morning Heartache", "Monkey Mind", "La Ci Darem La Mano", and countless other songs. Excuse my sense of humor, sometimes, it does get me into needless trouble. Sheryl is in a class of her own.
