Brigitte, you told that there was the Calendar 2001 being sold on some site of which I forgot the URL, well do you all think there are recents photographs with her short haircut or just oldie pictures with her long hair? Hi, If you like Travis, check out the far superior Charlatans' Us and Us Only CD (Sheryl would LOVE this CD). It's truly beautiful. They are channeling the Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed era. Other amazing rock and roll bands that Travis doesn't come close to: Brian Jonestown Massacre (Strung Out in Heaven), the Dandy Warhols new CD (13 Tales from Urban Bohemia), Arnold (Hillside). luv Patty << Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2000 23:38:37 -0400 From: "Christina Clark" Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: Who's Travis?? Next time I'll order Sheryl's CDs before coming :) j/k Okay, to be more serious, I'm wondering in which category you guys thinks Sheryl fits in. Here in France, we have different places in music stores for Pop/Rock, Independent Artists, Blues, etc... Well I guess it is the same in the US and in every country. In my town, Sheryl is classified in Pop/Rock category. I think that she probably was classified as Independent in JC's town (Lyon). I noticed a while ago that some artists are classified in different categories in different towns, like it was the case for Heather Nova (same problem for Sheryl, same categories). I don't really understant the meaning for Independent. What is it when an artist is called to be Independent? And what do you thinks Sheryl fits in better? In which category are Sheryl's CDs classified in the USA? Well I hope I was clear enough... Yeah I'm sure there'll be some of you who'll say "Sheryl rocks, and she *only* rocks!" :) And I already know this :))))) But it's just that I think some people don't know what kind of music she makes, to put her CDs in whatever category....... I've never seen Sheryl classified in Independant, A&M isn't an independant ( fucking record ) label but it was a Polygram and now Universal subdivision. For Heather , you can indeed find her Cds either in Pop/Rock or Independant. I will classified Sheryl and Heather in the same group : Music that I LOVE !!! (was: Back again) "Independant"... I guess that means she's somewhat of an indie artist. Well, she does have the musical flexability of an indie artist, which is suprising with the pressure to be a pop star these days. I'm thinking the person/people who stocked her cd's in Independant is probably knows their music. I say, "Sheryl shouldn't be anywhere near those 'one-hit-wonder-do-you-like-my-new-implants?" so called 'rock stars'". The fact is, she's a real musical artist. I saw one of the Behind the Music's yesterday, and in an interview Kurt Cobain said something along the lines of, "I think there's a special breed of people... very few, who love music, and become musicians, but they're very rare." More power to our "jazzy-country-honk-did-you-hear-me-sing-with-Pavaoratti?-Raven-of-Rock" woman. Personally I love Travis. They have this radiohead-esque vibe going on, so they may not appeal to the typical Sheryl fan. With that said, if you have diverse musical tastes, I'd recommend you check them out. I find that this list is a great way to learn of new music. Some clever guy on this list introduced me to Patty Griffin (whom I love now), and also, Steve Poltz. You guys rock! Are there any Nick Drake fans out there?
