Crow emerged from backstage during the Texas singer-songwriter's encore to perform a duet of the Chambers Brothers classic, "Time Has Come Today." This is the second time in less than a week that Crow appeared with Earle to perform the song. The duo played together on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno only three days earlier. The song appears on the soundtrack to the upcoming film Steal This Movie, about hippie-era political activist Abbie Hoffman. The collection, also featuring Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osborne, Ani DiFranco, and others doing versions of classic '60s rock songs, arrived in stores last month. The movie hits on August 25. Said Earle, from the House Of Blues stage, "Everyone needs to know who Abbie Hoffman was." The cover was one of several that Earle featured to close out his show. Others included versions of Nirvana's "Breed," the Beatles' "No Reply," and the Rolling Stones' "Before They Make Me Run." >> ummm take care ya'll laurence ===== [ FuCS/E/M exsr00 a Ifte /srf/mir lfr rd ps- bs so! t? He's partnered in yet another gala for the Gore campaign. This one's ''The Concert,'' Sept. 14 at Radio City Music Hall, for the Democratic National Committee. Weinstein's teamed with Jann Wenner and John Sykes to present this concert featuring Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Lenny Kravitz, SHERYL CROW, Jon Bon Jovi, Macy Gray, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Timothy B. Schmit who will perform songs by the Eagles -- plus name presenters. >> and.... << Stars to Fête Al Gore Macy Gray, Lenny Kravitz, and SHERYL CROW are among the artists set to perform at a fundraiser for Vice President Al Gore at Radio City Music Hall Sept. 14. No word yet on whether or not Tipper has to approve their lyrics before they go on. "The Concert," which will raise money to benefit the Democratic National Committee and Al's bid for the White House, features Jimmy Buffett; Bette Midler; Jon Bon Jovi; and Crosby, Stills & Nash in addition to Gray, Kravitz, and Crow. As an added bonus, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Timothy Schmidt will be trotting out tunes from the Eagles songbook. "I just like participating in democracy," said Buffett in a statement Thursday. "That might sound corny to people, but I think I'm lucky to be included in things like this that might make people's lives better." "This is an endorsement of Al Gore by artists who clearly stand for definite social and political values," added media magnate Jann Wenner, who is sponsoring the event with Harvey Weinstein and John Sykes. "Music fans have to recognize these people, whose work and ideas they admire, are all backing this man." >> I have a question. it may sound stupid to you but i'm french and i don't really get what's going on in politics in the US.... the news says that sheryl will be doing a concert to support al gore right? is this guy with bill clinton or is he in the other party? i thought he is from the other party but come to think of it why would sheryl support him since she supported clinton before? i guess i'm confusing a lot of things... can anyone clear that for me? thanks a lot in advance :) and by the way you guys in the US are extremely weird to make concerts to support politicians!!!! (hey little frenchies correct me if i'm wrong) here in france i've never heard about anyting like this!!! see ya later laurence ===== [ FuCS/E/M exsr00 a Ifte /srf/mir lfr rd ps- bs so! t? At the party following Wednesday's Village Theater premiere of Columbia's invisible-man-behaving-badly tale, Wick defended the picture's dark view by saying, "If you're going to do a voyeur story, you don't want to make it too sunny," and then made a reference to Plato, who's certainly been under-quoted at recent premieres. Wick mentions that in the Republic (philosophy majors will recall the story of Gyges the shepherd who finds a magic, golden ring) Plato makes the point that "if people were ever invisible, both the just and the unjust would do very dark things." Though his films would suggest he's quite comfortable working with the unjust, Verhoeven says, "I don't believe that myself. For the analysis of the movie, I want to believe it. The lead character is like that. With his dark side, then Plato applies. But with my wife, I would say Plato does not apply." Those visible at the premiere included stars Kevin Bacon with wife Kyra Sedgwick, Elisabeth Shue and Josh Brolin; plus 1,000 guests including David Schwimmer, SHERYL CROW, Amy Brenneman, LeVar Burton and Antonio Sabato Jr. >> ===== [ FuCS/E/M exsr00 a Ifte /srf/mir lfr rd ps- bs so! t?
