Since the first Farm Aid concert in 1985, the annual event has brought together a diverse array of performers, from Beck and the Supersuckers to Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, to draw attention to a single shared concern: the survival of America's family farmers. Now, to mark Farm Aid's 15th anniversary, the organization is releasing a special live double-CD of some of the festival's most memorable performances. Artists appearing on the disc, scheduled for release Sept. 12, include *Sheryl Crow*, Bonnie Rait, Johnny Cash, and Farm Aid co-founders Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young. Among the highlights promised are a duet from Nelson and Beck ("Peach Picking Time Down in Georgia") and the Dave Matthews Band doing "Crash." All proceeds from sales of the anniversary disc will go to Farm Aid, which has distributed over $15 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches, and service agencies in 44 states since its inception in 1985. This year's Farm Aid 2000 concert will take place Sept. 17 at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Va. In addition to Young, Mellencamp, and Nelson, the lineup includes performances by the Barenaked Ladies, Travis Tritt, Shannon Curfman, Arlo Guthrie, the North Mississippi Allstars, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The eight-hour program will be broadcast live on CMT, for the third year in a row.
