Hrrm...easy one. I prefer th' Crow in the studio to her live. The fellow who mentioned her being 'sloppy' seemed dead on; the Central Park album illustrates exactly why I'll never see her live. When she screws around with the lyrics, etc...I dunno. I just learned to hear songs exactly one way, and the music education I got was from two professional types who were "You will sing every single note the exact same way every single time, or you're not doing it right", and you can _never_ accuse Sheryl Crow of singing songs the same way live as they came on the album. Me, I'm picky---I'd prefer to hear her sing "Every Day Is A Winding Road" and do it the way I learned to hear it. Just can't stand it--haven't ever since I saw her on VH1 or something and wanted to strangle whoever it was that was butchering EDIAWR, and was disappointed when it was her. I would not have become a fan.. I didn't like the song at all. She yelled.. in my opinion, sung in a much too low key for her doing and the song didn't catch me. Maybe it was because it was really late, I had to wait till midnight, but I taped it so I will try it again. I must say I really liked Ellen Degeneres... oh man the cat is on fire! I prefer Sheryl's voice live cuz she usually plays around with the songs, making it more fun to listen to. Not only that, but a chance to show off her vocal talents. We saw Wednesday night the soulful Sheryl Crow. The last time I saw her in that groove was when she performed with Al Green at the White House on TV. She slides into her soul sister background vocalist persona with great agility. (I imagine most artists would love to have a background vocalist of her caliber on their tours.) The question concerning live performances Vs studio recordings is common to many artists. I think a lot of them feel an adrenaline rush before a live audience, driving them to inspired performances. In addition, in concert they're getting live musical feedback from their band mates on stage. As a concert tour moves around the country, an artist can tweak and fine-tune their songs, and become more familiar with the material so that they can perform it blindfolded . When they're in the studio recording , usually the songs are brand new and due to musician's schedules, studio time costs and so forth they might not have the luxury of tweaking that they would like. I noticed that during Sheryl tour last year she added a new ending on to one of her songs ( Anything But Down) . She added the line ' How could it come to this ? ' which added a new emotional twist to the package. But when the heck are we getting a new album ? I don't know of any pictures specifically from letterman but it's pretty much the look she has in the July 17 Us Mag (she's shaking Bill Gates' hand). There's also a pic of her @ the emp thing a couple of weeks ago, I have to give Lisa the credit for finding it, I uploaded it to my webspace because on my computer it was so dark on the fan forum that & I couldn't see it. Anyway I have the emp pic here: http://www.geocities.com/xfilesrules98/SherylPics/blondysheryl.jpg It was a little more puffy on letterman, kinda frizzy looking. About the live vs. studio, well I love her voice live. I know someone said they hate her changing stuff around when she's live, but come on she has to spice it up a little, singing a song for 6 years the same exact way night after night, has got to become tedious. If she didn't change things around a little she just wouldnt' have the enthusiasm that she brings to her shows. I'm sorry to hear that you wouldn't attend a show because of that, because they are really fun and she has a great voice live. Have you ever had a chance to hear I Shall Believe live? My god how could you choose the studio over that one? Live performances often give the performer and the audience the chance to put some more emotion into the song that can be achieved from a studio album. I find artists who sing exactly the same way as they do on their cds as extremely boring and flat in concert. Sure, she messes up once in a while, she's human, she's not always gonna be perfect, and I wouldn't want her to try to be, because that's when artists screw up, when they're under constant pressure to perform perfectly. I think Sheryl & friends did a damn good job, considering they were actually being broadcast live, as opposed to the other music specials I've seen on fox, especially with artists who's only other job is to dance around & look pretty. - ---------------------------------------------------- Sheryl Crow : If It Makes You Happy Join Care2.com's Race for the Rain Forest! A TRUE artist can re-work material and present it however she/he chooses, it's called improvisation. Sheryl does this superbly!, you say you "wanted to strangle whoever it was that was butchering EDIAWR, and was disappointed when it was her." What, butchering, you're joking right?, the very fact yhat Sheryl CAN change the songs round, mostly depending on mood, must keep her sane, are you seriously expecting her to sing the songs exactly the same, at every gig, benefit, t.v. performance????, she'd go nuts!!, and then be accused of being boring. I read a post complaining about Rockin the Globe being TOO much like the album!, You are entitled to your opinion, but I for one love to listen to the albums, but equally love the versatitlity, and sheer talent on display when she sings live. The studio, restricts her to a certain extent, on stage she can really let it rock or mellow, whatever, and I love evry performance!!, sorry, but I prefer Sheryl Crow the talent, to any miming, two bit, money making talentless, manufactured "artists" anyday.
