One was the part where it goes "I can give you two good reasons to show you love's not blind, he's 2 and she's 4 and you know they adore you, so how can you ....." A few songs later, they all sat in the middle of the stage to sing Strong Enough. Sheryl's hair has grown, nearly shoulder length and curly. She was wearing a goldish white shirt and white pants with a shiny gold pattern on them. Do songwriters need to be tortured souls to create great music? I know we all anticipate Sheryl Crow's next album with great enthusiasm. But what if she's too happy to make great music anymore? We witnessed last year an artist at the top of her game thoroughly enjoying her tour , appearing at several benefit concerts and ending up in Central Park at a nationally televised mega event. Where do you go from here? Do you feel that an artist needs to be in great emotional distress to create kick butt memorable tracks? I'm really interested in your opinions ! Sheryl has done some remarkable albums while suffering emotional distress, but I don't think the new one will be any less remarkable because she is happy. I feel this way for two reasons.....1) Sheryl is an amazing song writer and musician, I feel she is amazing enough to write incredible music with or without emotional distress. The songs may or may not have a happier tone but I have faith that they will still rock. 2) This topic reminds me of a quote I read by Sarah McLachlan in which the interviewer asked her if she felt she was too happy to write as remarkably and emotional as she has in the past. She basically said that happiness can bring a whole new level of great and emotional writing and if not she still had plenty of baggage to look back on.........I think Sheryl is the same way. I feel it will bring her writing to an even greater level. I was gutted when he quit touring, they worked so well together along wwith Tim Smith. God I need a new album so bad, I just hope it's not too long coming, September approaches, so who knows? But just because she's happy on the outside doesn't mean she doesn't have some problems. Her album could be about the process of gaining that edge that makes her happy, and I think that could make for great songs, about someone becoming strong enough. About growing stronger and overcoming those hurdles. (Um, yeah, puns intended. lol). After all, nobody's perfect, even the person who seems the happiest in the world has inner demons. And a good songwriter is able to go deep into those demons and put those feelings into words. We all know that Sheryl's capable of doing that. :) Kate ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000 22:57:17 +0100 From: "Coltrane-gb" Subject: Re:[sheryl-crew] I FOUND A GOLDMINE! Well I’ll be graduating from my university next May which means I’ll have to find a new place for my website to move to since I won’t have access to their server anymore. So I was thinking of maybe registering the domain name www.sheryl-crew.com and making it (officially) the official website for this mailing list (currently at http://www-scf.usc.edu/~cmejia/mailinglist.html) and of course also the new home to This Is Home. Cool with everyone? Well I’d also like to make it more “high tech” and since I only know the basics of HTML, I’m looking for a web designer to completely redesign my website. In fact, it’d be great if you could remain chief webmaster of the site. I can provide you with all the content (news, articles, etc. – just check out my site for an idea) and you can keep it up to date as much as possible. Now, I’m willing to of course pay for the cost of registering the site, but I don’t think I can pay someone for their duties (in cash, that is, although CDs, tickets and product from my work - BMG - are negotiable), so I’m pretty much asking this as a favor. I know there are several of you here on the list that run your own sites, very cool ones too, maybe we could join forces on this? Like I said, I still have a year to do something, so it’s nothing of a rush, but I thought I’d start planning now. So if anyone’s interested, please email me and we can talk some more. Thanks! For one thing she's seen and done a lot since the writing of the Globe Sessions, there's more to life than writing about your relationships. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a song about her trip to cambodia & Vietnam or something in there. Not to mention how violent a society we have become etc.. Another thing is that I love her music and everything but if it meant she had to be miserable then I wouldn't want her to do it anymore. Her happiness is more important then her career. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 13:12:39 +1000 From: "Kwok, Charles" Subject: RE: [sheryl-crew] more songs! lol Yeppers, you ARE an angel Christina! Hello Crew! I was just wondering why all the lyrics of the songs that talk about "love" in sheryl albums just like: It don´t hurt, ordinary morning, sad sad world, and so on; talk about a man leaving her and breaking up their relationship. why is always Sheryl the one who suffers? Why can´t she be the one who says it is over? And enjoy her freedom? Keep rocking!! gemma ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jun 2000 23:04:58 -0500 From: Linda H Pinckney Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Tortured Souls I don't know about Sheryl, but as for me being a song writer, I must go deep beyond artificial feelings. I live in the south and everything you feel is covered up by politeness. In my music its nothing but truth. Since where I live it is looked down upon to be anything but happy and carefree. That is why I write, I'm human I'm allowed to have feelings, and for me the only way I can express when I'm depressed, is when I write. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 13:28:23 +1000 From: "Kwok, Charles" Subject: RE: [sheryl-crew] why does everyone on this list feel they have a right... dude.. if you have a problem with talking about a celebrity's looks, try telling that to the world of fans out there.
