I got a whole digest of my own... did you start your own list together and forgot to tell me?.. I'm going to buy a new guitar next week, birthday present for myself. A semi-acoustic, I want a black one, anyone can recommend good but not too expensive brands? It was tiltled "Sheryl Crow to Beau: Make me a mom or we're FINISHED!". It was about how Sheryl is getting older and she wants to have kids so she gave Owen the ultimadum, marry me and lets have a family or she is prepared to end the relationship. "Pals" say that Owen is not going to put his career on hold just so Sheryl can be a mommy. I don't know how much of that is true, we all know how reliable those magazines are, but I just thought I would share. I think Sheryl wants to have a family but I don't think the part about Owen not wanting to is true. Anyway if your interested there is a good picture that went along with the article. Cheers Amanda =) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2000 19:20:07 -0400 From: mattlarson Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: sheryl-crew-digest V3 #169 Be careful if you select guitars in the $200 range. My advice - since I just bought a one year old Martin DM ($500 its cheap for a Martin) 2 weeks ago is: Read up as much as possible. Learn why a "solid top" is better than one that isnt, etc. There is some material on the web about how to chose a guitar, but there is no substitute for hearing the sound each makes. If you like I could send the URL's to you. But take your time go to several music stores and try as many as you can - even those you cannot afford just to see how different they sound and why they are different. If you can bring someone along more experienced who can play better that would help. Since if you are a beginner (like me!) you want to hear the best that guitar has to offer without the fret buzz a beginner adds. Have the salesman or person play songs you know on each guitar and compare the sound and play it yourself - are the strings too far apart for you (do you have small fingers, etc..) and see how comfortable it is. Keep in mind A beginner can make the best guitar sound bad and an expert cannot make a cheap guitar sound good! When you find 3/4 guitars you like dont buy them! , but rather write down the make and model - then go to on the web and go to http://www.harmony-central.com/User_Reviews/ and look up the model for reviews on that guitar and see what people are saying about it. U will find most say their guitar is wonderful since few want to admit they bought a lemon, but it really helps you learn about the reputation of stores and guitar maker vendors and what can go wrong *and* right. Since there are a lot of guitars gathering dust in the basement you may have the attitude I had "I'll get a cheap one cuz I dont know if I am going to stick with it"...but what happens is because a beginner can get discouraged easily when they dont sound good and they might think thats its their terrible ability when its just the substandard guitar. By getting a guitar that sounds good you will be far more motivated by the good sound you generate to practice yet even more because it sounds pleasing. For an acoustic/electric make sure you hear it both "unplugged acoustic" as well as "plugged in" so you can see the difference. Some may sound terrible when plugged in and others may sound only good when "plugged" in and play rotten acoustically. Make sure you get brand new strings and have them check the "action" (how high the strings are from the neck) for you. Check to see where the guitars are made: in general american guitars are of better quality, but cost more. The really expensive accoustic guitars are Gibson, Taylor, Larivee, and Martin you may not be able to afford them, but try them out just for kicks. The foreign guitars are coming on strong though especially lately. There are plenty of good vendors besides the ones I mentioned. If you get a good name brand guitar and you quit playing dont worry someone will want to buy it from you so you can recover nearly all you $$$. I know people with 10-15 guitars - there are people who collect them! So dont worry if you spend lots of money. I wish you luck its fun buying a guitar....Anything I add or help you with let me know. ...Matt Brigitte and/or Michael wrote: > > Whoa... That's got to be rumor. I mean, we all know Sheryl's looking to have a family, but she's not demanding. She said herself "If my relationship with Owen works out, great, if it doesn't..." So I don't think she's going to force him to become a daddy. I could understand if they were married then maybe the rumors would start flying, but they've been dating for...wasn't it recently their 2-year anniversary, or am I thinking of something else? Anyway, they're *not* married, and she seems like the type who would rather actually get married first. lol. Of course, when I saw the news on AOL about Celine Dion being pregnant, all it said was: "Ecstatic Celine: Singer pregnant at last" and I didn't read the first part (all I read was "Singer pregnant at last") and my first muse was "Hmm...Sheryl?" Hehehe. ;) Aww...can you picture little Sheryl and Owens running around? Sheryl's looks, of course, and Owen's tendency to get his shoes dirty (forum people know what I'm talking about. for those of you not on the forum, go here: http://www.geocities.com/fadedsign/sherylowenscooter.jpg and take a nice look at Owen's shoes ;) :) Kate ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 08:45:03 +0200 From: Jenny Renaut Subject: [none] hello, crew, I was just surfing, and i thought that maybe that could interest some of you: http://wallofsound.go.com/artists/sherylcrow/home.html Enjoy your day, Jenny Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann Cellule CREBS 162a, ave. de la Faïencerie L - 1511 Luxembourg Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg +352 470261439 ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V3 #170 *********************************
