I live about 30 minutes from Kennett, MO and have been there several times. Sheryl occasionally gives benefit concerts in her home town of which I have attended two. One was held on the football field of the high school and the one held last year was held in a civic building with a reception following at a local lodge. They are always great concerts! I'm not saying anything bad about a REGIONAL or NATIONAL party, but I still like the LOCAL idea. It's hard enough to get people to show up at a local party, let alone have them travel hundreds of miles, have to stay at a hotel, etc. to go to a national one. I know even if a regional party were held in New York City, I probably wouldn't go since I live in Washington, DC. ___________________ Lately it seems so much of Sheryl's lyrics apply to me and my life. I mentioned before I am considering/attempting to relocate to Los Angeles after 16 years in Washington, DC. I keep thinking, in my mind, "all I wanna do is have some fun before I die..." and "all I wanna do is have some fun until the sun comes over Santa Monica Boulevard". Santa Monica is one of the places I plan to look for an apartment because I want to be as close to the beach as possible. Also, "I think a change would do me good". Eventually I'll have "packed the house and moved out after all...". There are other lyrics too that apply but I can't think of them right now. _________________ By the way, I was looking through some old newspapers that I'm auctioning off on eBay (no, this isn't an ad), from 1976, and I saw ads for concerts in Philadelphia (where I'm originally from). I couldn't believe how cheap the concert tickets were! Elton John (near height of his popularity) - $8.00 for the best seats. Fleetwood Mac (the great lineup with Stevie Nicks) - $6.50 for lawn seats and $8.50 for pavillion seats! I've paid more than that for a movie! (OK, not quite, but almost). I know this isn't anything NEW, but I think concert tix prices are ridiculously out of control. I generally pay $25-40 for a small-venue show and lots more for the big concerts. Some of the concerts I've even had to SKIP lately because I'm out of work and don't have the money. I wanted to see Cher (no flames please) and she came here TWICE and I couldn't because the first time they wanted $77.50 and the second time almost as much. I'm one of these people who insist on having good seats because I always enjoy myself so much more. I guess I should be willing to sit in the cheaper seats to at least BE THERE but somehow when I do I always feel like I should have gotten the better seats. In the same newspaper, they advertised albums (LPs) for as low as $3.69 and even the most expensive ones were $6.99-- reminding me that albums were ALWAYS cheaper than CDs are now. Anyway, I think it's obvious that ticket prices have increased at a rate MUCH HIGHER than the inflation rate. - -Larr _____________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Click here for FREE Internet Access and Email http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 20:11:58 +0100 From: "Coltrane-gb" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Great Site Hi, As most of you know I'm relatively new to this list and the forum, I got net access to find out more about Sheryl and her fans cos " I swore they were out there", and in the past 6 months or so it's been amazing how much stuff I've found out and how many really nice people I've talked to about Sheryl. I'm just getting round to visiting some of your sites and I must congratulate David Ribeiro for his excellent site!!!..thought I'd share that...I'll get round to more soon, thanks to Gregg giving me the links!! Give me a break I'm only 17 lol....no really it was just a typo. So I am the one that should be apologizing. On the campus they voted recently on who to name one of the music buildings after, Sheryl almost won but at the end they decided that some other guy (??) who wasn't involved in pop culture so much was better....????? When she played the Hearnes Center (sports complex on campus) it was really cool because the school and one very cool local radio station made a really big deal about it. And during the concert people held up these really nifty signs saying things like "Welcome home, Sheryl" and of course "We love you". St. Louis is about an hour and a half from Columbia but I am not sure exactly how far Kennett is but Columbia is basically in the middle of the state and Kennett is much farther south in the boot-heel. Hope this answers a few of your questions.
