Mailing List Parties are the best! Another mailing list I belong to gets together fairly regularly. Both in the states, and in the UK. Last summer we had 40 people converge on Chicago for a concert! It couldn't have been better! Unfortunately, some "lurkers" were there too, but didn't come up and join the "talkers". So, all told there were probably 50-60 listees there. Anyway, if you set the date, they will come! It's a blast. You should definitely do it. Partying it up? All things > Sheryl? When else could you go to a party and ALL the music be Sheryl and > not have to explain yourself?? Only in dreams.... Actually, it's not only in dreams. I am a member of a group JUST LIKE THAT-- for Prince/The Artist (since 1994). It's called LoveSexyDC and it's for fans of Prince located near/around Washington, DC. We have monthly parties at different members houses and we play ONLY Prince music and discuss him, watch videos, etc. It's a great way to meet other fans and to see/hear things you never heard before! With Prince, there is so much unreleased stuff that it's easy to play only his music during each party. Different people bring different CDs and we listen to them-- lots of bootleg and live stuff. Also the videos are usually live shows that someone recorded. Sometimes we have games like "Name that Tune" with prizes etc. The entire "club" has over 200 members on its mailing list and about 10-20 show up at each gathering. There are similar groups in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, etc. and some in Europe. I was going to try to get something like this started locally but I'm not sure how difficult it would be. I see a couple of problems-- 1. Sheryl hasn't been around that long and there isn't enough of her music that people haven't heard. Now that's probably not true because I'm sure there are many bootleg CDs out there that all of you own. I don't own any yet-- I'm still trying to obtain her original 1992 CD on eBay for a decent price. But that's the kind of thing we would play at the parties-- if I could at least go to someone's house and hear her original unreleased CD (which I've never heard), that would be cool. She DOES also have lots of tracks on OTHER albums (like soundtracks) that I've never heard and those would be great to play as well. 2. Sheryl hasn't been around that long and I don't know how many fans she really has that are THAT dedicated as to show up at a party once a month. As you see from above, LoveSexyDC needs over 200 members just to get 20 people to show up at one party. And sometimes it's more like only 8 or 9 people depending on where the party is held. So we'd need a list of at least 100 people from DC/Baltimore and I don't even know if there are that many on this list! Maybe meeting once every 3 months instead of every month would be good. Just my thoughts (and by the way I have other ideas that I'll share soon too), Larr __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 10:49:30 EST From: Leelunar@aol.com Subject: [sheryl-crew] New magazine! Hey all! So,I was in the grocery store last night, looking at hairstyle magazines, and as I am flipping through one ( i think it was celebrity hairstyles, or something), there before me is a two page article about SHERYL! I was so excited, I stood at the newstand reading the whole thing! (I must have been really tired, because I don't even remember what it was about) But, anyway, It was two pages of Sheryl. It was a June issue, but the pictures were of Sheryl when her hair was the shortest. Did she cut it again? OK, enough of my ranting for today... (::looks around:: I dont think I spelled that correctly.) Anyhow... Sheryl has TONS of fans.... (There just not all on this mailing list!) ;) Anyhow.... Since I'm the one who started this... I think the best question would be like... where does everybody live? I know we've got allot of people from out of the states... ::Waves to the buddies in Argentina and Europe:: I'm from Miami personally, and I know like 20 people here... ::Waves to his journalist friend in West Palm:: So I dont think anything would be a monthly get together.. but maybe a once in a life time sort of deal.... some where central? Sounds like allot to ask.... Hell, it is allot to even ponder... any ideas? ;) - -Jonathan On Thu, 23 Mar 2000, Larry Blumenthal wrote: > > Can you imagine how much fun that would be???? I hope you all enjoy being here, as everyone has already said, you will love it. If you ever need anything, let us know. About everyone meeting and having a huge Sheryl Party, that is the coolest idea ever. We should plan one and get everyone from around the world to show up and then somehow work it out so that Sheryl will be there to perform for us and meet us. I know, I'm about to wake up, don't worry. Anyway, it would be a great idea. Maybe we could all meet in L.A. some time. Anyway, I also wanted to say thanks to everyone for giving us your opinion about the singer/writer issue in the kindest manner possible. That was really cool. Usually I get flustered right away about the subject and I didn't at all, I just read what everyone was thinking. It was great. So thanks. I must run now, thanks for letting me babble. Sheryl Rocks!!! Lara P.S. since Sheryl is going to be performing in Kentucky, does anyone know if she will be starting her acoustic tour any time soon??? Or did she change her mind about that?? Because she had mentioned May or June. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 16:48:05 -0000 From: "Helen Louise Mead" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Re: Hi from the UK Hi there, My name's Helen, I'm from the UK, and I'm also new to the list. Finally I can talk for hours and hours about Sheryl Crow and know that i'm not boring anyone! I've been an avid fan for the last 5 years, so I feel priviliged to be able to be part of the list. I saw Sheryl at Wembley Arena last year on The Globe Sessions tour - obviously she was amazing, and listening to her sing Home live and play the piano sent shivers down my spine. It's really difficult to choose my favourite song, I love them all, but my 3 favs are Strong Enough, Home, and Am I Getting Through. I also enjoy listening to Heather Nova and Sarah McLachlan. Speak to you all soon, Helen :-) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 14:43:35 EST From: KSGymnast4@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: Every topic. :) Hi Kate, Sarah, Elisabeth and Helen! :) I love having new people on the list. Once upon a time, 4 months ago, I was one of you. Hehe. I love the idea of a giant Sheryl party. Maybe when she starts touring again we can all agree to meet somewhere that's convenient for the most amount of people, go to a concert and stuff. I think it would be interesting to meet all you guys. In a big group, of course, like at one of Sheryl's concerts. Anyone here planning on winning 5 million dollars (Gregg maybe??) and getting a private show just for the forum and this list? Hehe. Hey, it could happen. :) Kate Elizabeth <---Had to stick the Elizabeth in there this one time ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 14:38:48 -0600 From: "garbo12" Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Re: New New is good too!! When Sheryl played here last fall it was obivious she had many fans and as you can hear from the CD, we love her here, especially now that she lives here. New York is central, too. I'm sure there are many Sheryl songs we all have not heard, especially covers done by other artists and of course, any bootleg recordings. We could have this party on a Tuesday Night. Well, why not -- this New Yorker is ready. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 17:37:39 EST From: SCFANCLUB2@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] Sheryl Parties Hey Crew! Long time no write! Hope everyone's doing well. Welcome all new members! Glad to have you onboard! Well, believe it or not, but this list currently has 396 members. And there's many more on the Fan Forum. So the idea of having a get together, as others have mentioned, is not only great but also feasible. I've already had the pleasure of meeting a few people from the list in L.A., and I look forward to meeting more of you. But I think having one around the time of Sheryl's new album release (our own private listening party) or while she's touring might be more fun or at least it'll attract more people. The easiest thing would be to plan local events in the major cities while she's on the road, and maybe one day we could have one big gathering, maybe in St. Louis or something. It's something to think about. Maybe we can elect an "embassador" from each different region and that person can be in charge of putting things together? And once again, I'd like to say a big thank you to Hilary for doing such a great job with the birthday book. And a big pat on the back to all of you who participated in it! Ciao! I can do that, if you want. For those of you who are interested in getting together as a big group, and only those who are seriously considering going, send me your location. Preferably send me the nearest big city to you where Sheryl might tour. (ie, I live on Long Island, so I'd say New York City because I doubt Sheryl would come to my town on the mid-island) Oh, yeah, you should send it to me privately because we wouldn't want to clog up everyone's mailboxes, now would we? Then I could send it to you all and we could decide from there. Good idea, bad idea?
