I have just had surgery and am taking painkillers for the horrible pain I am in, so I may be a little "out of it". But I have something to say. There is something very special about this list-- I don't know what it is, but everyone is so nice here that I really feel like I am a part of something very precious. Even when we disagree on things (like the recent singer versus singer/songwriter thing), we do it nicely and we respect other peoples' opinions. That's really important. I am on other mailing lists (such as a Prince/The Artist Formerly Known As... mailing list) but they are not the same. People on those other lists are very critical, flame/insult other people on the list regularly, and argue like cats and dogs. But not here. I am thinking of relocating to Los Angeles (from Washington, DC where I've been for 16 years) and I know that once I move in, get my computer set up, and re-subscribe to the Sheryl Crew, I will feel like I'm "home" reading my first digest. No matter where I am, even if I don't know anyone there yet, I will always have this list as my friends. I wonder if there is something about Sheryl herself that makes her fans so great? Thanks for listening and sorry to be so "emotional" or "sappy". I debated whether to send this or not and I decided to do it no matter how silly it may sound... because it's how I really feel. As Sheryl herself says, "This is Home". - -Larr __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2000 10:38:48 EST From: MsGroovyClam@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] This mailing list Larr... I think we can all agree that there are very few people who have "the complete package" and Sheryl is one of these few people. She is beautiful and smart, witty, edgy and vulnerable at the same time and her songs reflect that (there are some people singers who whine and complain a lot and fail to have a sense of humor whcih often gets boring and overbearing). She's an excellent instrumentalist, a wonderful songwriter, she has a great voice and charismatic, to boot! iShe's simply cool -- and she doesn't let it go to her head. She really has it all and there are very few people (male or female ) out there who can do that. To have mastered technical musical talent and to have the charm, wit, and presenttion at the same time is very rare. You all convinced me - singing is a talent "in of itself" that can justify the praise given to them. There are artist that I like (say Ronstat or Stevie Nicks) that may or may not contribute to other parts of a song. Although I think Stevie esp. in her solo career wrote much of her work. I do think that singer/songwriters/musicians dont get near enough credit though. I hate it when people I know talk about the song from so-and-so when that person just sang it and never even created the lyrics, score, or even played one instrument. A songs "credit" never seems to go to the person who created it to begin with.....Anyways thanks everyone for letting me see the light. Singers are important and are to be respected. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2000 18:25:20 EST From: MsCreation12283@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] This mailing list I have to agree with everyone about this list. When I write and read my e-mails, it is really enjoyable because of that. I love reading your guys' stories and debates when we argue. I think that the respect that everyone has for each other really makes this an extremely enjoyable list. Thank you guys for that.
