The interview shows why in my mind SHERYL is the greatest of all times. She sings from the heart and hasn't let her success go to her head. She is still down to earth and wants to stay that way. Brigitte ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Feb 2000 11:02:51 -0800 From: "Christopher Kowalski" Subject: [sheryl-crew] The Interview C.D. Greetings Sheryl Crew, I just got the "Sheryl Crow On Sheryl Crow: The Interview" C.D. from eBay, it's an hour-long C.D. that features the same design as her second C.D., and includes over thirty minutes of interview (about the second album, which at the time of this C.D.'s release was just coming out) and eight tracks including: If It Makes You Happy, A Change (Would Do You Good), Home, Hard To Make A Stand, Superstar, Maybe Angels, The Book, and Everyday Is A Winding Road. I'm not sure how many of you have heard it, but the C.D. includes some interesting notes on the above mentioned songs, and I figured I'd share: [1] "If It Makes You Happy", according to Sheryl, is just a song about living in the moment, making the best of every bad situation, because if you can find a shread of "good" in every "bad" moment, it can't be that bad... Funny, I thought this song was specifically about a relationship... Hmmm... *smiles* [2] "A Change (Would Do You Good)" was cowrote by Sheryl about "Bill", although she never mentions his last name, she says she started the song shortly after "he left". Bill Bottrell? He left? What, did I miss something? Anyway, she went on in the interview to say this song got her in trouble, as songs often do for songwriters who end up writing about people they shouldn't. She said the song was about someone who "couldn't handle life" as a "day-to-day" thing. [3] "Home" was inspired by one of her idols, Gram Parsons. [4] "Hard To Make A Stand" has a very interesting story. Here in Pasadena (right down the street from where I work) stands Toad Hall, where most of "Tuesday Night Music Club" was born. Now an antique store, this studio (an apartment really) was right next to a coffee shop that was often frequented by a drag queen that called himself/herself "Miscreation". One day, Sheryl noticed he/she was gone, and asked someone at the coffee shop about his/her whereabouts. I guess the shop's manager told "Miscreation" to go away, and before leaving he/she slipped a note under the door saying "If I'm not here... You're not here...". This was also about the same time as the gunnings in front of the Floriday abortion clinic, mentioned in the second half of the song... [5] "Superstar" is a mockery of the whole "You're a star... For now..." effect that Los Angeles/Hollywood can have on some people's lives... [6] "Maybe Angels", wrote before the whole "Roswell" media-hype came about, was Sheryl's attempt to capture some of the emotion behind those seeking spiritual awakening in the form of angels, dead celebrities, and of course, aliens. [7] "The Book", written by Sheryl one stormy afternoon when she was playing some music she had composed. She was just playing, and decided to throw some randoms words together, and everyone loved it. It became, "The Book". To her, it's the story of someone who opened themselves up, and ended up being violated, finding the whole matter turning around on them... [8] "Everyday Is A Winding Road" is a simple song, according to Sheryl, about just living in the moment. In the second part of the song, where she sings "He's got a daughter he calls Easter..." she calls upon the image of her friend, who had a daughter a year prior to the "Sheryl Crow" album's released. The daughter was born on Friday (or it may be Saturday, I forgot), and named "Sunday". Lol that's when she keeps on saying "you know"... i had already noticed it, i have only a few interviews of sheryl but, maybe it's a coincidence, i don't know, she was always ending or beginning her sentences with you know :) um or maybe it's something usual in the united states? anyways, thanx for the interview transcript! ===== sometimes when it's quiet, i'm an angel in white -- sheryl crow sheryl crow's neighborhood http://www.multimania.com/rocksheryl rocksheryl@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
