I rented the Guitar Tab Edition of The Globe Session from the library once and that book is so hard. At the beginning of the songs it often says tune your guitar to open B or whatever. I think you have to be creative to come up with that kind of guitarmusic. Sarah's book just says, put Capo on.... She almost always uses a capo. Apparently, Sheryl's gonna make a appearance on that episode. Also, I found out that the Austin City Limits show slated for 3/18 is gonna be a "Best Of" show featuring female singer/songwriters (one of which is Sheryl). I saw Sheryl's ACL appearance back in '97. She was fantastic. Did anyone in the Crew see this show? I especially loved "A Change" (that's my favorite live song). Also, vh1 is showing Great Grammy Performances this weekend. I'm hoping that they show the performance of AIWD (from 2/95). I think I saw that performance when it aired, but I didn't videotape it. I did see (and videotape) Sheryl's performance of TGTN (from last year). That performance was awesome! Sheryl kicked ass that night and the lighting - WOW! Everyone knows Sheryl's live shows rock. The "Central Park" CD & the RTG video prove that. Now mind you that I have never seen Sheryl Crow live/on stage, but I just pictured so much more energy, movement, when I listen to her music, then what I saw in that video. Probably an "off" day, or she was tired/sick, or just didn't feel like moving all that much. After-All, I hear in Central Park, she went wild. Are they doing a Central Park video/D.V.D.? I have seen her in concert at the Hearnes Center on the Mizzou Campus in Columbia, Missouri which is only 30 miles from where I live and I have seen her at Lilith Fair in Bonner Springs, KS~basically Kansas City. Both times she rocked but the homcoming show was really awesome. She told stories about when she was in college and for her encore she came out in a Mizzou jersey, it was the best concert I have EVER seen followed of course by her Lilith performance~as well as Sarah McLachlan's and the Dixie Chicks'. But I do not think the song was that great in the first place. It was slow, monotonous, and just waaay too long. But perhaps if she had not made it sound just like Beautifu Stranger and had kept it to a more serene melody it might have worked. her vocals were okay, i thought, it was the music i disliked. and i feel that the video might have worked had she not danced around and been silly the entire time (i like the concept though). anthony :) who will crawl back into his dark pit in lurkersville ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 21:06:59 EST From: Tak181B@aol.com Subject: Re: [sheryl-crew] American Pie Remake by Madonna Hey I am not goign to flame anyone -- but if one can voice an opinion then i have that right as well. I think madonna's remake is INCREDIBLE. She took the song with Don McLean's approval (by the way he is impressed with her remake) and made it hers in a way YET she still managed to keep the feeling of the original. The song was remade for a movie -- The Next Best Thing and it had to be cut down from the original 8.5 minute version. SO considering the circumstances i think she did a MARVELOUS job. There are NOT many remakes that i like but this happens to be one. When Sheryl remade Dyer Maker she made the song hers (meaning she adapted it to her style). It is IMPOSSIBLE to remake/cover a song and have it sound EXACTLY liek the original. I am a art major and when they teach us about composition they teach us to either center something or have it far enough off center to make it obvious that it was intentional. This is what Madonna has done. If you keep the song too close to the original and do not adapt it to your style then it seems liek you hit and missed. I understand that many people do not like madonna and flame her for ANYTHING that she does. I happen to admire her VERY much. She is an INCREDIBLE artist who has the ability to push an art form to it's furthest point. That is somethign that at least deserves respect! ROCK ON MADONNA!!!!!
