It would have been hard to recognise Sheryl Crow in a Vietnamese street as=20 anything other than a "Tay Ba Lo", a Western backpacker. The American songstress is here on a four day trip programme by the Vie=C3= =A4t Nam=20 Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) and BAN, the US anti-landmine group. And for a specialist in love songs she is smitten by Vie=C3=A4t Nam. "What s= trikes=20 me the most is how open the people are," she said. "Particularly after Vie=C3=A4t Nam had so many decades of war, they are stil= l very=20 warm and open, very close to their families, very community-oriented and not= =20 at all bitter." Also, does anyone have any idea why, when she sings EDIWR, Sheryl sometimes sings "Everybody gets... /Everybody gets" instead of "Everybody gets high/Everybody gets low"? The only explanations I can think of are that maybe she does hand movements instead of the words (a long shot, I know) or lets the crowd fill in the gaps. I've never heard this at concerts I've been to myself, only at the Wembley one and the '96 show at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, both on tape. But people who saw Sheryl at Wembley this year might know. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the UK has TGTN as a single (or at least they did have it) and the US has ABD. Well we have both. Don't ask me how, but we do. Case in point. Currently I am listening to Magic 94.9, a radio station in the neighbouring town and they are playing, as quoted by the DJ, Sheryl Crow's latest - TGTN. Not 5 minutes earlier, on a Toronto radio station, Mix 99.9, they played Sheryl Crow's latest - ABD. I am confuddled. My friends have seen in one week (I don't have cable, therefore no access to Much Music) both the video for ABD and TGTN, and the DJ's listed them both as Sheryl Crow's latest. Ahhhhh, could they please just have one single at a time for everyone! Please! Do you know how hard it is to keep track of these things and track down the singles? I hear one song on certain stations, another on other stations, and then neither on even more stations. Well enough of my ranting.... Later in the trailer they played "Everyday Is a Winding Road". Don't know if these songs are in the movie or just in the trailer. I've noticed that sometimes the music in the trailer is NOT in the movie-- sometimes they even use music from another movie! Now I know your asking yourself, and asking me, WHAT's the name of the movie that the trailer was for? Well, I'm stalling here because I cannot remember. Sorry. If I see it again I'll be sure to note the name of the movie. I'm referring to the removal of mines in war torn lands. I wish you much success. It is the very least you can do considering you received lyrics from a man whose leg was ripped apart in Viet Nam by a mine that blew. He returned to the states addicted to morphine, only to progress to heroin. A leg reconstructed with steel and pins and skin grafts...a tragedy for a man who had aspired to be an entertainer one day. He did not write the lyrics you take claim to. You are not the only recipient of lyrics you did not write, but lay claim to. They were to be his and my future. Not all the lyrics were for or about him. Some were. Strong Enough was about his addiction. He had to be strong enough to give up illegal drugs. I believe he did for a short time, but he wasn't strong enough. Now, my brother, who had a real problem is dead! He was 52...not old enough to be gone. Our youger sister has Huntington's Chorea...she has 2 boys aged 10 and 11. I fear it will be an institution for her in the coming year. The lyrics were supposed to be a guarantee none of my siblings would be institutionalized. I guess you can never trust a junky. I wish I could say I can't cry anymore. I'll have a tough time making my taxes this year, having been out of work for 13 months, but I am back to work now. I never thought I would be living those lines. So, do you write any of your lyrics? A few, I know for a fact you did not write. Will the real Sheryl Crow please step forward? The lyrics were written in 1970.
