Thnak´s ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Dec 1999 09:38:08 -0800 From: "Christopher Kowalski" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Live Album Review And More Greetings Sheryl Crew, Just got my "Live From Central Park..." album, here's my review: [Everday Is A Winding Road] You know, that's the second time I've heard her say "Ah now shake your ass..." when performing this song live. The first time was on my Woodstock '99 C.D., a bootleg of course, not the original. [My Favorite Mistake] I'm not sure why everyone said she sounded off-key in this track, I think it even sounds better than the album version myself. [Leaving Las Vegas] I hated this song until I got this album, well, not hated, but strongly disliked. I could never get over the voice of the guy who does background vocals for her, but this time, the drum beat, the little insert she does about playing in Central Park, and the extra stuff about Owen at the end made up for it. I'd have to say this is even better than the album version. :-) [Strong Enough] Coming from a guy who never heard the Lillith Fair versions of this song, I have to say the Dixie Chicks rock. Of all the Sheryl songs meant to have a Country And Western feel to it, "Strong Enough..." is definetly it. [It Don't Hurt] The intro' to this track, about the "Stupid shit you do to get over someone..." makes me laugh each time I hear about it. Also, I've noticed when she normally performs this song live she leaves out the last line, which changes the whole song's meaning: "It don't hurt... Like it did... It hurts worse who do I kid...". This time, it's included, and all I can say is it's about damn time. [A Change (Would Do You Good)] Not the best version I've heard... But... [Gold Dust Woman] I've never been a fan of Stevie, so I have yet to get into this track. I take that back, I like the song "Silver Springs..." she did. [If It Makes You Happy] THIS SONG ROCKS! Chrissy Hydne adds to this song in so many ways, her voice is perfect for it, don't you think? [All I Wanna Do] I figured this would be the last track on the album, and I was surprised she didn't change "Santa Monica Boulevard..." to some street from New York, being as she changed the first part about "L.A....". [Happy] I also still have yet to get into this song... The Rolling Stones right? [The Difficult Kind] It's nice to hear Sarah in the song, even though I'm not one of her fans. I heard someone mention they did "Angel..." together, but of course it never made it to the C.D.. I'm actually kinda glad, this was a Sheryl-thing, and I was shocked to see some covers on the C.D. as it is, but seeing covers of other artists who were also performing that night would have been strange... [White Room] To tell you the truth I think I've skipped this track so far... [There Goes The Neighborhood] Nice... But if this was the last song in the concert, why is "Tombstone Blues..." put on the C.D. after it? Did they do an encore song perhaps, 'cause that's what it leads me to believe. [Tombstone Blues] Not too fond of this song... Maybe in time? I also managed to pick up the new Prince (or whatever you want to call him) album, and while I've already had a copy of "Baby Knows..." burned onto a C.D. from the .mp3 that was sent across this list for some time, it's a good C.D. to have. His cover of "Everday Is A Winding Road..." is terrible though, in my opinion, the beat and all is great, but he should have kept the original lyrics. I get frustrated when artists cover another artist's songs, and don't have the respect to keep the lyrics the same. What kind of tribute is modification? There is also a new C.D. released (at least here in Los Angeles) by the radio station 103.1 F.M., a rock station who invites artists into the studio to play live. Sheryl did a live acoustic verison of "Anything But Down...", and if anyone knows about the radio station Star 98.7, they'll know they just released the same type of album, featuring another acoustic version of the song by Sheryl. Funny, she went to both radio stations, and performed the same song live. *shrugs* Either way, the Star 98.7 Star Lounge C.D. sold out instantly, people were waiting for hours in line just to get it, but the 103.1 C.D. isn't quite as popular. I guess I'm going to have to keep my eye on eBay for the Star Lounge C.D.s. They actually renamed it though, the title they came up with "I Hope This Makes Sheryl Crow Happy...". If I were the webmaster of her site you'd see how much work I'd put into it, and how much you could do with it. I feel really flattered with all the great comments you guys have made on my site (Paradise), and my great friend Natalie's site (Home of Sheryl Crow). The thing is the people that are working on her site are being paid, and I imagine a good amount too, and us fans get paid nothing, and work our asses off day and night, and what do we get for it ? The fact that Sheryl goes out, and does what she does is what keeps us going, David - -----Original Message----- Personally I like it for the fan forum. I post there all the time now.. How have you fared in attempts to "convert" others to the glories of Sheryl? No, most pple I know think I'm crazy and not quite rational about her music, so they think they cannot trust my taste. I did get my sis to go to one concert, and she said it was better than Alanis Morissette, which she enjoyed tremendously. My friend, he used to say she was a one hit wonder (even after SE, LLV, CCA, etc), now acknowledges that he was wrong, but hes a miser and only watches music on TV, never buys albums. Another friend wanted to go to the concert, but was put off when I said I only wanted the best seats, which were $70 each - she wanted seats right at the back for $55. Makes sense? I think not. Another friend bought the album at a second hand store just to see what I was so crazy about. He's into eighties music, and thinks Sheryl's music is ok only. So there you go, I feel so alone :( 9. Who would you like Sheryl to do a duet with in concert? I heard Sheryl wanted to duet with the Chieftains on their album which features female leads. It is an excellent album, ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #425 *********************************
