Rate Sheryl's albums in order of your preference. Globe Sessions, SC, TNMC 2. What's your least fav. Sheryl song? I've never been a big fan of Members Only. But that's because I always thought she was saying, "Uncle Larry's hooked on 'ass' again" I just found out that it's actually "ice" that he's hooked on. I'll have to re-evaluate my position on the song. 3. What song would you request of her in concert? Superstar, that song rocks out big time. 4. What song would you prefer not to hear in concert? I wouldn't mind listening to her sing the alphabet in monotone. There isn't anything that I would not want to hear. 5. What's your fav. Sheryl soundtrack song? In Need, the first time I heard it I played it over and over for weeks. 6. What's your fav. Sheryl website? The official one. I seem to have it ingrained in my mind that the world will cease to revolve if I do not check it at least twice a day. 7. What artist is most similar to Sheryl? The first time I heard Joan Jones in concert I commented that her voice sounds like Sheryls. Other than that, there isn't any one person who you could say is similar to her. She's the one and only. Unless of course there is a clone somewhere around here that I am unaware of. 8. How have you fared in attempts to "convert" others to the glories of Sheryl? I currently reside in the land of Crowdom, where I navigate my way across the countryside by using my uncanny sense of Crowdar. I have yet to officially convince anyone to go to the post office to change their address and profess the faith of Crowism. But my mom did say that she was surprised by how normal she looks. That must count for something. And I told my hairstylist that I wanted my hair cut like hers. Maybe I could get partial credit. 9. Who would you like Sheryl to do a duet with in concert? I would have to say that I would put myself as number one on that list. Second would be Sarah McLachlan. Those two singing Angel together was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. Their voices blend together beautifully. To be continued on the second poll... I feel like a one of those contestants on Who Wants to be a Millionaire that would give a huge explanation for a one word answer. It's more fun this way. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Dec 1999 23:29:39 -0600 From: Nicole Subject: [sheryl-crew] second poll Next Poll 1. What was the first Sheryl song you heard? All I Wanna Do, of course. For the longest time I despised that song because I heard it so much, but I have a newfound appreciation for it. My guilty feelings for not liking it for so long have caused me to love it now. It's actually one of my favorite songs on the Central Park cd. I get a kick out of how she says "I like a good beer buzz early in the morning" and the crowd screams. YES!! I too love getting hammered before noon! Just kidding. 2. How did it come about? Radio. No long explanation here. 3. What do you feel is the quintessential Sheryl song? I'm not exactly sure what quintessential means, but if it means pick a cool song to play for someone who has never heard Sheryl before, but it sums up her style and her career, I would have to say A Change or The Difficult Kind. 4. What is your fav. Sheryl song? I hate to just pick one in general. I have a favorite from each album, a fav. on Monday, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, soundtrack, fast song, slow song, good party songs, good dancing songs, good singing along to songs, good guitar songs, good live songs, good studio songs, but since I need to pick a favorite...The Difficult Kind. 5. What's the first Sheryl video you saw? I'm sorry, I haven't got a clue. It might have been Leaving Las Vegas. All I can remember is Peter Berg riding in a convertible. 6. What's your fav. Sheryl video? I always miss them. I don't know what they are all like. I know I've seen MFM since it's on the cd. I guess I'll say that's my favorite. I've heard Home is good, maybe that should be my favorite. 7. Do you have a fav. Sheryl talk show appearance? I thought she was pretty cool on Letterman this year, although I'm still confused about what was going on with her hair that night. But it's all good. She got to talk quite a bit, and she was so silly. What a silly goose! 8. How many times have you seen her in concert? Once at Lilith last summer. She was amazing. I'll like to see just her sometime soon though, so she could play longer. I've watched some on TV, but has anyone else noticed that it's just not the same as being there? I feel so distant when I'm sitting on my couch in my living room halfway across the country. Maybe it's just me. 9. Have you ever met her? Not yet. But she answered one of my questions in the chat, and she said that it was funny. Yeah!!!!!! I made her smile!! My day will come, if we are meant to meet, it will happen eventually. If not, that's cool too. 10. What is your prize Sheryl posession? I would have to say that my most prized possession of Sheryl's would have to be the used piece of dental floss that I picked up out of her trash a few weeks ago. I have it framed and hanging on my wall. It's gorgeous. Just kidding, it's really the used Kleenex that fell out of her pocket. It might not actually be hers, but there is a chance. It was in the area that she had been occupying the day before. Ok, that's not true either. It's a picture I took of her while she was on stage at Lilith. I took about 6 pics of her and all but one were so dark that you couldn't make out who it was. One of her and Sarah singing TDK sort of turned out. I got in enlarged so you can see who it is. I've got two more of the whole group during the encore, she's playing the accordian. It's cool... Well that was enjoyable. Let's do more polls!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: 8 Dec 1999 21:53:05 -0800 From: "Darren" Subject: [sheryl-crew] More poll... 1.) What was the first Sheryl song you heard? I'm afraid I don't remember which was first... see #2... 2.) How did it come about? (Radio, magazine, TV, Lilith...) I heard her on the Mark & Brian Radio Program out of L.A. They really built her up before her appearance, so I rolled a tape and listened to it as it was broadcast (unfortunately, the tape itself malfunctioned and did not record anything worth listening to.) I know she played Leaving Las Vegas, Run, Baby Run, and at least one other. 3.) What do you feel is the quintessential Sheryl song? Because I feel alot of Sheryl's music focuses on changing your life for the better (hopefully), my feeling is that A Change Would Do You Good expresses that, at a full tilt pace! 4.) What is your favorite Sheryl song? As unpopular as it may be, the Na Na Song (and it's sister track Volvo Cowgirl 99) is just too much fun! 5.) What's the first Sheryl video you saw? I'm not too sure... but I think it was Strong Enough 6.) What's your fave Sheryl video? If It Makes You Happy, I think. Because I do relate to it on a different level than the obvious. Plus, I think it was interesting to see Sheryl go totally "sexy" with the hair, the make up, the tight clothes... I am a guy, afterall! 7.) Do you have a favorite Sheryl talk show appearance? Alas, I haven't seen that many. 8.) How many times have you seen her live? (Details encouraged, teehee.) 3 times. At an in-store performance in 1994, then later that night when she opened for Crowded House. Then, on the last Lilith. All here in Portland Oregon. Details? Hmmm okay. I'd had the TNMC album for awhile, and was singing her praises to whomever would listen. Some actually did! Anyway, I was walking through NW Portland on a Sunday afternoon, and saw a marquee at Music Millenium that Sheryl Crow would be playing acoustically that afternoon. So, I went. She played 5 songs, and cracked herself up by playing Steve Miller's The Joker instead of Leaving Las Vegas (they have a similar opening riff). I don't know if it was rehearsed or not, I kind of think it was, because she did it that night at the Roseland Theater (or was it the Starry Night back then???). She didn't think it was AS funny that night, but she did do it again. I was coming down with serious illness that night, had a very high fever and was feeling really bad. I left right after Sheryl, didn't even stay for Crowded House. I do remember I loved The Na Na Song. This version had lots of Beatles snippets in it. Then, Lilith Fair '99. I was way in the back. 9.) Have you ever met her? More details, please... I did, at the in-store appearance. You must remember that this was before All I Wanna Do hit the airwaves. She was basically unheard of at this point. There may have been 40 people there, but they were all big fans. Everyone wanted an autograph. And everyone got one, including two for me. I took lots of photos, and she saw me doing it, so she kind of talked with me, (maybe thinking I was Press or something!) as she was signing cd's, posters, and such. She answered my questions, and chatted a little, until I felt uncomfortable, like I was taking up others' time with her. Some of my photos are here: http://www.spiritone.com/~darren/sheryl.htm 10.) What is your prize Sheryl possession? I have a double size flat of TNMC autographed "To Darren, with love, Sheryl". Which I'm going to have framed this month. She also signed a cd the same way. But, I like my photos of her a lot too. I feel I captured the feeling of her performance and her personality that day. Somewhere I have 3 minutes of super-8 movie film of that performance! (I had gone garage sale-ing and found a movie camera real cheap, so I bought some film to test it out. It worked fine. I put the film someplace safe for safekeeping, and now, of course, I can't find it!) I don't post much here, I run two other mailing lists, and that makes me "email burned out" most of the time. So, this is just my chance to say "hi!" I'm desperate to get a cd copy of The Trinity Church Sessions, if anyone has it on cd and would be willing to try and trade for it! (CD-r's, ya know!) (someone offered a trade once upon a time, but a program crash took their addresses and made gobbledygook out of it!) Peace, Darren ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #418 *********************************
