If you go to www.blueconcerts.com and click on "Partners" and then scroll down to "radio", I think that's the list of radio stations that will be carrying the show. Also, if you want to watch the webcast, that's the website to go to. Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Sep 1999 22:34:16 +0100 From: "J. O' Connor" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Lilith in Kansas As some of you may or may not know, I was in the US all summer working at a summer camp. The camp was in New York state but then I flew to Kansas to visit a friend who is attending KU in Lawrence, KS. So, anyway, I got there on the 25th (I think) and I went to Lilith in Bonner Springs, KS the next day. My struggle to actually get transported there is a whole story on its own but that can be for another time. I finally got there and the acts from about 3.30 weren't bad at all, I was pleasantly surprised and I managed to get a Sheryl t-shirt. The pic on the front isn't fantastic even though I'm pretty sure it's official but nevermind. At about 5.30p.m. the Dixie Chicks came on and I was standing quite bored surrounded by rabid country fans having to clap in case I might be set upon for not liking them (no offence to any C&W fans but it's not really my thing). I was a little worried and not really paying attention when I heard a louder than usual cheer and heard people say "who's that?" and someone said "It's Sheryl Crow." Sure enough, I looked at the stage and there she was with the accordion strapped on and singing away. Everybody looked at me a little strangely when I suddenly got a lot more enthusiastic and started shouting "Yeah Sherrrrrrrrryl!!!!!!!". (You should understand, this was my first time seeing Sheryl in concert and I was suitably ecstatic about finally seeing my idol for the first time. She doesn't really turn up in Northern Ireland that much! All day when I heard voices singing at the smaller stages I kept thinking that I could hear Sheryl even though I knew it couldn't be.) I can tell you that when she went off again I was definitely paying attention to the rest of the set and the other performers. There were a lot of her band members on at different points during the other sets but the lady herself was not to be seen again. I thought that it was really cool that she was having such a big impact on the whole show. I was building up in anticipation until finally she came on and I was screaming at the top of my lungs for her. There were a couple in front of me who kept giving me dirty looks but I just ignored them cos I was so happy!!! I can't really remember the setlist because I was too damn excited but she had the Dixie Chicks on for Strong Enough and said that their lead singer had a better voice than she. I shouted out no and thought I was going to get clobbered on the spot. I just cannot stand that Dixie Chick's voice at all. Sheryl's is damn near perfect!! Then she had Sarah Maclachlan on during The Difficult Kind and she has a very good voice but I wasn't too impressed. Generally though Sheryl was fantastic, she was dancing all over the stage and talking to the crowd and she did a toast at the start like I think she did on the Live In London video. During Everyday Is A Winding Road she just took the microphone and danced all over the stage getting the band members to sing and putting the mike to the bongo (?) drums and all, it was just plain fabulous. Then she said "Here's a song I didn't write, it was written by my good friend Axl Rose." and everyone went wild. (I was gonna say she did it in a sexy voice but I always think she has a sexy voice so that wouldn't be any different from her normal voice!!) Everyone sang along to SCOM and I sang extra loud even though I had been singing to all of them. She did Riverwide but she just said "Here's a song you probably won't have heard and then did the explanation of what it was about and mentioned that it was from a Walt Whitman poem (he got a big cheer too). I can try and piece together her explanation if you like but I would rather not try and mess up what she said. As far as I remember she finished on If It Makes You Happy and then there was a 20 minute break before Sarah Maclachlan came on. I must admit Sarah put on a good show but I didn't like the fact that she made such a big effort for her own set but it seemed like she hardly even tried when she was singing with other people, Sheryl and others. Sheryl was back on for the finale with her accordion and she was really great then too. I really want to see one of Sheryl's concerts now because she was only on for 50 minutes instead of about two hours and most of the fans were there for Sarah with quite a lot for the Dixie Chicks. Ok, everyone got into it while Sheryl was playing - Sheryl got them into it - but they weren't there for her and her alone. It just wasn't quite the same. I really enjoyed myself though and I hope I can see her again soon but I wouldn't bet on her visiting Belfast where I'm going to University too soon. Japan is a little out of my price range but we'll see! Anyone noticed she looked a bit tired at one point during the performance? I really dig those shoes she wore, something you'd catch Stevie Nicks wearing. :) Any news about her new album?
