I think it's a bone-chilling, absolutely haunting song and there are certainly tons of other slow ballads out there getting tons of airplay (Sarah M's "Angel" comes to mind). I do agree with those who said that the whole what-gets-released-when-and-where issue seems to be really screwed up on TGS. I have to hope part of it is the confusion with the record company merger and that it's a temporary problem. Thanks, Lisa, for forwarding this info! My radio station says they are playing Woodstock performances every night this week with Sheryl scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. I have no idea how long the program is (doubt it's the whole set) but I'll be taping it. Might want to check with your local Sheryl-playing station to see if they are doing the same thing. With Woodstock, I'm glad no one was seriously hurt or got killed cuz I did think about that, knowing Harin was there. I can't wait to see the video someone promised me, he's so sweet to think of taping Sheryl's performance for me. Enough from moi, watching MTV and Vh1 at the same time, two different tvs though. The more I think about it, maybe TDK would be a good release. I listened to it a couple of times last night and thought about the same thing, Sarah's "angel" being slow and getting a lot of airplay. It could be something different that could attract new fans. I just hope it doesn't go the route of SCOM. That really pisses me off. Everybody who I talk to say how much they like the song, but it got very little airplay across the antion. OH well, let's stick to Sheryl's own songs as singles. === Brad _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Now I absolutly love TDK but it will not make a good single! I think that they should either release, It don't hurt, or members only, She needs to release an upbeat song cause people don't want to hear depressing songs. Now this song will not be a good song for Kansas City cause we arnt' the right market for it. We have 2 top 40 stations, and only one plays her and that station I don't think would play TDK, mabe once or twice but that is about it. Being a big-time Sarah McLachlan fan, I have to make a related comment about this single controversy. When Sarah released Adia and Angel as singles, a lot of her 'net fans, including me, had a major problem with this because these songs aren't necessarily radio friendly. Witness and Black & White are songs you'd hear on the radio, not Angel! So we bitched and moaned, and guess what? They turned out to be her best singles ever! People and the radio liked them. So you never know. :-) - - Kristina (who likes talking about Sarah) _______________________________________________________________ Get your free e-mail / e-card account that helps save wildlife! http://www.care-mail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 15:50:13 -0400 From: Phair Phan Subject: Re: New TGS single.. As "Home" is more of a ballad and I never heard it once on the radio, "The Difficult Kind" will not be a success because they may not play it to start with and it is a Sheryl ballad. I'm sure a lot of people like it, but that's not the way radio works. Seth ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 17:31:51 EDT From: Smokefeath@aol.com Subject: Re: New TGS single.. << i wish they would release TGTN in the US >> The problem here is that THTN has already received extensive airplay; in fact it scored very high on all the national Triple A lists, so it would be redundant to release it as a single now. It would not get the airplay it needs. <> Technically, Sweet Child is not a single off the Globe Sessions. Also, >while she didn't write Mississippi, it is still the original (and, to date, >the only) recorded version of that song. Therein lies the problem. SCOM is, as you pointed out, *not* a single from the *original release* of TGS. Usually, such a release (like TND) means that the old LP is on the way out, and a new one is on the way in. However, because of the whole relaunch of TGS *with* SCOM, it seems that the label could either be considering themselves to be releasing TGS product, or using SCOM as a stop-gap single, like TND, between LPs. Of course, there is always the speculation that there will be a live LP this fall, now given a bit of credence by the fact that there will be a US concert video release. Don't rule out the possibility that SCOM *was* considered the final TGS single, and/or a stop-gap bridge single to the next, live, LP. Who knows. Maybe a live TDK will be the lead single from a live album. It is not out of the realm of possibility, especially since, although foreign markets have been inundated with live this and live that for years, us USers have gotten very little of it. Remember, Live From London wasn't even issued in North America, and only a handful of live tracks (less than 15, no matter how you count 'em) have come out here. On the other hand, the label could put out a TGTN, Mississippi, or whatever they like as the next single. Only time will tell. And, as we all know from six long years of insane release schedules, logic will likely *not* dictate the next release, which is why there is still a flicker of hope for TGTN as a US single, though I think it is slimming fast. They may be crazy, but methinks they are not THAT crazy! Oh, and I take objection to the words "only" and "original recorded version" in reference to Mississippi. I find it hard to beleive that she didn't start off with a Dylan demo, in order to learn the song. She is the only artist to have *released* a version of Mississippi to date. After all, she has only had 6 different US commercial singles so far, but has had easily over 50 different foreign singles going all the way back to 1993. Oh, and it is not tariffs, but higher prices in general for foreign singles, and the cost of importing them, which make them cost $10+. It's worth the price (free). It's pretty good, I think. I know Jen cooper wasn't a big fan of it. She said it was slow and I agree that it is kinda dull, but it's new, and it can tide us over until a new album comes out. Second, I was watching The Real World: HAwaii tonight and I saw that in one of the scenes they had a Sheryl Crow flyer in the background, with a date that looked like April 2. I wonder what it was for. Check it out in the reruns this weekend. It's about half way into the episode, when Matt and Justin are talking at a table about the trouble at the radio station Third, don't be surprised if we don't get to see MINUS MAN in our local theaters. I just saw a webpage on it and it says that it gets NY/LA release sept 10 and more cities Sept 24. Well those other cities are Seattle, DC, and a few others and none of them are near me. Oh well, since I'll be in the middle of nowhere, I guess it won't be that big of a deal. But if you're in a big city, you have a better chance of getting it. I believe the second release is about 8-9 more cities. Well, that's about it for now. I'm debating whether to try and catch Hard Rock Live Saturday night or not. I work a wedding at the country club, which will probably go until really late. And the kicker there is that I have to catch a plane at7:20 in the morning. So I'm pretty much screwed. I figure I'll try to wait until I see her perform these live and in person at Lilith. It's only 3 weeks away. Otherwise it would be kind of anti-climactic. Liek watching Star Wars on video before seeing it in the theater first. Does that make any sense? SORRY THIS MESSAGE IS SO LONG. THANKS FOR READING IT.
