I can truly say I wouldn't have had an arse kickin time if she wasn't there. Her voice sounded so amazing. I was kinda disappointed she didn't sing SCOM, but o well. The best part of her set (in my option) was when she said a few words that lead up to her saying "This is song about me" I was the only one standing up (That I could see) during my FAVORITE SONG The Difficult Kind. It was SOOOO great. Well, worth my $44.00. I hope all of you get to experience something like it if you get a chance to see her this summer. Yeah, I was pretty bored during Shawn's set. The Pretenders have been in that spot on most of the tour and I'm not sure why they had to skip Dallas cause they are getting back on the Lilith tour next week. I'm on a Pretenders list and the reviews of Chrissie and Sheryl at earlier Liliths have been wonderful. In fact lots of the reviews say Sarah was a letdown after following Chrissie and Sheryl. I have a feeling Dallas got Shawn cause she lives in Austin and could sub for the Pretenders on short notice. >second, was sarah mclachlan's voice a bit higher than usual? i've seen her >three times and that was the weirdest it's ever sounded! She sounded a bit different than I remembered from Lilith in 1997. This is the 4th time I've seen Sheryl live and the second time this year supporting the Globe Sessions CD and I am becoming more and more impressed with how good a musician and performer Sheryl is. I think of the three "girl acts" - Sheryl, Alanis, and Jewel - who sold a gazillion copies of their first album, Sheryl is the only one who is proving she has staying power and wasn't a "one hit wonder." Even though she did pretty much a shortened set of her Dallas show back in March, it still sounded fresh, ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 18:26:27 -0400 From: Brooke James Subject: Sheryl Vote/Crew Shirt Aren't these voted by female/male musicians? Hi Crew, Did you guys know that "Volvo Cowgirl" is not really an original? I'm not saying that it's a cover, but I'm very sure Sheryl borrowed it from Bob Dylan. There's a song called "Subterranean Homesick Blues" from "Bring it All Back Home" album that sounds just like it. The lyrics are different, but the music is exactly the same. Because of this, "The Na-Na Song" almost sounds like Bob's song. "Subterranean Homesick Blues" came out in 1965 or so, and it also had one of the first music video. Maybe some of you have seen it, it's the one Bob is standing in the alley flipping through cardboard with the lyrics on it. I think INXS or U2 did a similar video 10 years ago... Sorry if you knew about this already, but I figured something like this, I would have read it or heard it from somewhere by now... It's scary, but really good! The music is what gets your heart thumping and the special effects are really cool. My only problem is I think this movie could have gotten the R rating cuz of one scene it had reminded me so much of Lake Placid. Guess I'm kinda sensitive to this kind of stuff cuz a lot of parents will be asking if a kid would be able to watch the movie. My personal opinion, I wouldn't take a 7 or 8 year old to see this movie. I dunno, it's different for every kid cuz I was watching Aliens when I was 7. Enjoy if you're gonna catch it. I went to the kitchen to get the newspaper and the tv magazine which comes with the Friday paper and has tv programs for the next week. Well... Then I suddenly saw a familiar face on our kitchen table: OH MY GOD!!!! It was Sheryl in the cover of this tv mag!!!!!! And the cover says: "The prisoner of the media: Sheryl Crow, The Rock Woman Of The Year, is a star lurked by the press...page 5" I´ll translate the article for you... A Lonely Star----------------------------------------------------------- Timo Repo, Stockholm Enormous success took will to live and media lurks every step of Sheryl Crow. Interview---- Sheryl Crow was born in Kennett, Missouri, on February 11, 1962. In this musical family father played trumpet in a swing band and mother taught playing piano. Studies didn´t go very well, because the girl staked in music with every cell. The risk was worth it. - The Globe Sessions -record was nominated for six Grammy Awards, and I got one. That was enough for me. I was crowned The Rock Woman Of The Year. On Saturday Sheryl performs in the massive Woodstock concert in New York. Other performers include Metallica, Alanis Morissette, Bush, Willie Nelson and The Offspring. Crow´s career took off from the hit All I Wanna Do. Later she got more appreciation when she performed the James Bond theme song. Because of the success, this young blue-eyed was ripped in almost every American tv program. - Continual hit hunting is frustrating, hard but also very challenging. It´s hard to foresee what the real fans will like. It´s one of the reasons why I love writing songs. Because of this fever the rock lady lost her will to live for awhile. - Many friends supported and helped me. They adviced that my life will be like this in the future as well. No time for dating Sheryl Crow made her breakthrough when she became a back-up singer for Michael Jackson´s Bad tour in the late 80s. Gossip press got material for their stories. During the last year Sheryl had time to date with Eric Clapton. Especially American press made big stories about the pair. They were photographed in different restaurants and concerts together. At times the virtuosi guitarist took his pet on his New York apartment where he has his own home studio. Sheryl admits she needs companionship and love. - I hate it that the press makes me life hell. I can´t meet and travel freely. Immediately if I go out with a guy he´s marked my boyfriend. Journalism in America has changed to really twisted. Sheryl admits she wants a partner alongside her. - I don´t know how to be alone. Everlasting travelling and touring make me really lonely. My romantic side needs support from another person. Just before her European dates The Rock Woman Of The Year found a secret, sympathetic and humoristic boyfriend. Woodstock 99 Nelonen Friday 23.05 (Finnish time) Saturday 10.00 and 23.25 (Sheryl performs on Sat. between 10-13) Sunday 10.00 (Finnish time) Monday 23.05 (Finnish time) There´s also a picture and the text says: "Rock star Sheryl Crow, lurked by the media, has collected a group of awards but they don´t comfort a lot." - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I also noticed that today´s there is VH1 To One: Sheryl Crow on VH1 Europe at 18.30... I think it´s 16.30 in Britain (at least in London...). Well, that´s all...bye!!! I must say... I hardly ever write this list, even though i've been on it since the VERY beginning but i must say that i have to write about this particular topic.... I went to the austin and the dallas shows, and while shawn's show was better in austin, she is still an awesome musician.... and she fit in perfectly with the show.... i have seen her perform numerous times (and with sheryl 4 times) and she usually does perform with a band which makes the show a little more festive... but none the less i must say, Shawn is a wonderful musician and acoustically, she is one of the best performers I have seen... (plus she's one of sheryl's good friends...) Overall, I guess I'm just saying, if you have seen her before and if you are familiar with more of her work, her show does seem much more interesting... sorry, just my 2 cents... - -Jessica ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #256 *********************************
