On two of the days Sheryl is wearing clothes from previous events or photoshoots, and I love it! It shows that she isn't too pretentious , that she feels she is just a normal person and can wear something more than once, even if it was during a hugely televised event! The two I could catch were the flowered white dress that Sheryl wore to the '98 Grammy awards ( I remember because I loved that dress) she was wearing at the Seattle Lilith (the Gorge) on the 10th of July, then at the San Francisco July 14th date she wore the little top that she wore for the Details mag photoshoot and on her SNL performance of MFM! This really impresses me about her, that clothes are clothes and she doesn't care if someone saw her in that dress or that shirt already! Bootleggers make a profit off of something that they have no ownership rights in. You may copy a TV program for your own use. But once you start making CD-R copies and selling them for $20 a piece, I think you are going beyond personal use. I have been tape trading for over 3 years and have rarely paid for tape or a CD-R beyond cost of materials and postage. I assume that the person who taped it did it for his own pleasure and, if he makes copies for others, he shouldn't expect to make a huge profit on distributing it. I know I can't make some of you understand and it is your money. But I am just telling you how most tape traders on the internet work. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Jul 1999 02:09:33 +0100 From: "Peter R. Duguid" Subject: Minus Man tonite ..... Then somebody else entirely said: >The point is that Burger King is in business to make a profit. And then I said (for no real reason at all): Well, speaking of people using something they have no ownership rights to, I think McDonalds would have a great deal to say legally if Burger King were to start selling Big Macs. In fact, I would venture to say that the legal ramifications of Burger King's "Big Mac" would probably be much greater than the fact that somebody pressed up a few Lilith CDRs, even if their motive was (like Burger King's) a purely financial one. The thing is that this seems to be something that everyone doesn't have. Maybe others have are in the process of making a Woodstock CD as well. If it's trading...sure, cost of materials and shipping. If money is involved, it's not trading anymore. When I first started collecting bootlegs, I had to pay the price. With videos, I was lucky enough to get someone to sell me 3 for 20 US. Video tapes cost what, a little over a dollar each if you buy in bulk for decent Maxells. Why should someone put wear and tear on their equipment, and spend their time making something, and not getting anything in return? I wouldn't trade a stranger a CD I made, and spent hours making inserts (plus cutting them out which is tedious) to get a blank recordable CD in return. On the other hand, I've given CD's to friends and other certain people for nothing and at my own expense with shipping. I just don't think $20 is unreasonable for a double CD that isn't widely available, and had it's share of expenses (that did partly go to the artist) for someone that doesn't have anything to give in return. Just my opinion of course. John Stephen wrote: > The point is that Burger King is in business to make a profit. Bootleggers > make a profit off of something that they have no ownership rights in. I think a lot of people might appreciate keeping those discussions away from here, since they often get heated and tend to go off topic, get uninteresting or continue between just a small group of people. As for the actual list itself, OneList.com is a good place to start one. So, who thinks this is a good idea? And who is willing to start it/run it? If no one volunteers but you guys agree that there's a need for this, I guess you can count on me! Please e-mail me privately unless you feel the Crew needs to read it too. Also, can you guys please try not to quote entire messages when you're replying on the list? Just the part of the msge you are responding to would be great.
