Hey everybody, I have this question that's really been bugging me for quite some time,it's concerning the two songs Sheryl with with Stevie Nicks for the Practical Magic soundtrack. Why doesn't Sheryl get any sort of credit for the song ? I mean if you look at the back of the album it says If You Ever Did Believe by Stevie Nicks, no mention of Sheryl Crow what-so-ever except inside the CD booklet. Same goes for the music video which you can clearly see Sheryl singing and playing the guitar yet they only list Stevie Nicks name down. I don't know about the rest of you but I think it's a bit unfair. After all, Sheryl played a major role besides singing and playing guitar, she also produced the song along with Jeff Trott. Let's look at some other exmaples like Byran Adams When You Are Gone with Mel C Byran wrote the song without Mel C and even recorded the song with him singing solo before deciding to add Mel C voice ( which isn't so great in my opinion) in the background. Yet Mel C does get credit for the song even though you could hardly hear her voice in the background. In case you are wondering,Adams never recorded the song with Mel C at the same time, her voice was just added on to the background later on. You can hear the original version of the song with Adams singing solo on the CD single of When You Are Gone. Anyway, can anyone give me an explanation why Sheryl's name is left out of the credits ? Cheers! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jun 1999 09:24:14 +0100 From: "Sam" Subject: Re: UK SCOM AUG. 8 gods, us UKers have to wait _that_ long - how awful :( how pants is that!!! well i suppose we do get quite a lot of sheryl with her early releases over here and her earlier tour dates and her appearances with the stones and her suspected return to more headlining dates in sept! Sheryl Crow produced these two songs. She might also have played some instruments on 'em. Many producers do that (Mutt Lange for example, who produces Bryan Adams and our most wanted Shania Twain). Still, Stevie Nicks recorded those songs. Sheryl deserves producer-credits, but that's all, and as far as I know she got those credits (at least in the movie end credits). > Let's look at some other exmaples like Byran Adams When You Are Gone with Mel C > Byran wrote the song without Mel C and even recorded the song with him > singing solo before deciding to add Mel C voice ( which isn't so great in my > opinion) in the background. "When you're gone" is considered to be a duett, so it's only natural that both artists get credits. I believe that the main motivation for doing this duett were marketing reasons: B. A. tried to appeal to a whole new segment of the music market - - Spice Girls-fans. And it worked. Don't get me wrong, I really love that song, but everybody else could have sung those harmonies. For a duett I would have expected Mel to sing a verse on her own or something, but if it makes them happy ... Hi everyone -- I work with a non-profit youth and arts society, TSUNAMI (http://www.gulfislands.com/TSUNAMI ) and we've been picked to partner with Lilith Fair on an art project called the Mosaic tent at the Vancouver tour launch (July 8). One of the things we're doing is building a poetry wall. We're also going to write single words on strips of paper that can be glued to papier mache face masks. For both art-creation activities I want to include words that are especially meaningful or elemental to the artists who'll be appearing at the concert and those who care about them. The Vancouver line-up is: Sheryl, Sarah, Beth Orton, Deborah Cox, Mya, Luscious Jackson, Bif Naked, Sixpence None the Richer, Coco Love Alcorn, and Maren Ord. I've been thinking about key Sheryl words from lyrics: home, strong, day, happy, redemption... I'd sure appreciate help and knowing what means a lot to other fans! If this is a good discussion thread, that's cool. Or email me privately (TSUNAMI@gulfislands.com ) if you have any favourite Sheryl words or groups of words -- and if you can think of any good words for Sarah and any other Lilith artists on this bill, I'd love to hear them as well. cheers, Adrian ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jun 1999 17:23:26 -0700 From: Chris Ketchum Subject: SCOM(chords/tab) Here are the chords and the main electric guitar parts taken from the longer of the two pop versions.
