For those of us who were there, the writer of the above is correct--it was pretty scarey, but I'm also going to assume she actually meant "sacred." So I want to pose this question: What was it that was so sacred and so meaningful. I spent a year in Vietnam as a war correspondent four years before I went to Woodstock and I'm still not sure which was worse. Let's see--the only place on the entire farm to get food burned the first day, so food supplies had to be airlifted to us (since it was impossible to get in or out of the area via ground vehicles.) Then the first night it poured leaving the entire grounds a muddy quagmire. So we spent four days (it took a day to clear the traffic after the festival was over) wallowing in the mud without food. And, then, if you're talking about the long-term "meaning" of Woodstock, that lasted an entire six months until later that same year when the Hell's Angels murdered an innocent bystander at the Altamont festival during a set by the Rolling Stones. My point is too many people have the bought the myth of Woodstock (and the movie admittedly contributed to the promulgation of the myth) and bypassed the reality of Woodstock. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jun 1999 18:00:07 EDT From: Smokefeath@aol.com Subject: Re: Sheryl with the Stones.. << Hey, does anybody know how many or which songs of the Stones Sheryl has covered? >> I don't know, but I have fantasized about seeing and hearing Sheryl singing "Tumbling Dice," "Let It Bleed," and/or "Ventilator Blues." But as for Madonna and Sheryl they don't like each other at all. One time Sheryl was talking about her old looks(Michael Jackson days) and her big hair and the interviewer asked her why she changed, she said she wanted to, and then she said "Madonna can have all my old looks". Then another time when someone asked her why she cut her hair short, she said cause everytime she looked in the mirror she felt like she was looking at Madonna so she cut her hair! LOL! I am not bashing Madonna, I am just simply repeating what Sheryl said. Christina ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #207 *********************************
