I had a question about the song, as well. When Sheryl sings, "What about me, Marie?" does that mean she would like to be one of Marie's lovers? >> I always thought it meant Marie was shutting people out, and that when she sings "what about me Marie" she's asking why Marie doesn't open up to her. Oh Marie to me isn't really a sexual song, it's more about a song about the character's life and how in spite of her sex life she's a lonely person, which is why maybe she is the way she is. My favorite line from the song is "need is love and love is need" which I think kind of sums it all up. Anyways that's my $.02 for today :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 09:05:29 EDT From: ImSlug@aol.com Subject: Re: Oh Marie I always looked at this song as a message sort of saying we look at people all the time from the outside and wish to "be like them", when deep down, they also have problems and hurt inside. Marie seems to get all the guys, and then says she's lonely. I think the line "what about me" is something that an outsider might say while looking into her life, seeing that she has everything (or thinking), and hearing from her that she's still lonely. Kind of like, "why are you complaining about your life? You have everything - look at my life." It's a daily experience, like looking up to the "popular" crowd and saying "what about me?" when you're not with them, but deep down, they have the same problems as you. I don't know, that's just my opinion. Thanks, Jackie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 09:10:08 EDT From: ImSlug@aol.com Subject: Re: OFF:Lilith Fair The five main performers start at the time on the ticket, and end whenever concerts are supposed to. They are on the main stage, and their time allowed increases with the performer's "popularity". The other stages are set out kind of in concession stand areas (at World theatre, there are two huge openings on each side for people to get away from the main seats). But if I recall correctly, they actually start earlier than the main concert. Last year, we missed all these acts. Of course, they could be doing it differently at each place. How long is each >performance? I can tell you how it worked for Dallas. The second stage was in the lawn seating area and the third stage was in the concession stand area. Acts on the second and third stages play about 20 minutes. Acts on the main stage play about 50 minutes except for the headliners who will play a little longer. Like in Dallas this year I imagine Sheryl will play about 70 min and Sarah about 75 minutes. The acts do not perform simultaneously so you don't have to worry about missing anyone. They rotate from stage to stage with 15 or 20 minutes between acts. The actual schedules for each city will be posted at: http://www.lilithfair.com/dates/index.html I just checked and they are not posted yet but you can check back when it gets closer to the date of the show in your city. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1999 09:21:33 EDT From: FadedSign@aol.com Subject: *Off* Tibetan Freedom Concert Hi all, I went to the Tibetan Freedom concert yesterday. Did anyone else go? It was a great event. If anyone doesnt know what it is about or you are interested, go to the following website: WWW.MILAREPA.ORG or WWW.TIBET99.com I dont know, Im not the kind of person that preaches, but the Tibetan problems are pretty saddening. The concert was a lot of fun too. Anyways, a Q for those who live near one, do they have any Sheryl memorabilia hanging up? I'm starting to wonder if the autographed acoustic guitar and picture I saw of Sheryl are real. I would have taken a picture, but it was near the kitchen and didn't want to look like I was nuts. Thinking of this cuz I saw a huge beautiful picture of John Lennon and it was "autographed" by him saying, "To Hard Rock.....John Lennon" That would be totally impossible cuz there was no such thing as Hard Rock back then, was there? The guitar is signed by Sheryl and she wrote something like "Cheers to the Hard Rock." Next to it is a picture of her wearing the suit but playing an acoustic guitar. Joan Osborne's dress and guitar is like right behind Sheryl's and she wrote, "Hard Rock, I'll be back to win back my money." It's funny.
