See, when fans are asked about meeting Sheryl and are asked about what she said, they tell almost immeadiately. On the whole, they don't go around bragging for months that they've met Sheryl and spoken with her and then refuse to tell what went on like some reporters I know.... And as you, Mr. Reporter who's very good at legwork, only got to speak to her for 20 mins, why is it taking this long to type out the transcript? Finger work is harder, I guess. And then after that they do like to brag about meeting all these people and having all these connections but usually, every article written after the encounter is based on only those 20 mins or some electronic press kit. Sad really, where as die hard fans choose to grow with the artist and show a lot of appreciation for their work regardless. And besides, I've heard Sheryl speak out against the press in general quite some times now. I know I spoke with her longer than one of Holland's largest music magazines. I work six days a week, sometimes seven. I have stories I work on daily and ones that take even longer, so they take precendence because I like that paycheck. I finish it when I can. There is also the matter of copyrighted material. The interview tape, transcript, everything, is mine...my possession. I have to be frank; without knowing the true integrity of the people who post to the list and those who lurk on it, I do not feel the most comfortable about it. There is a thing that most journalists try to do - convey the facts , nothing more. A news article is just that; facts. Yes, in a review a reporter can impart his or her feelings about the artist. In a column, the writer can do the same thing. However, in a news article, we cannot. So, yes, we do work with what we get in 20 minutes and a press kit and some research prior to the actual interview. That is all we can do. And I commend anyone for standing and waiting to see someone they enjoy; it is what makes the fans, fans.
