We were waiting after the show w/ other fans behind these two guardrails, it was pretty much a gamble, we didnt know if she was gonna sign anything or not. Her tourbus was ready so she could have just hopped right on. Instead like the awesome person she is she took a few minutes to acknowledge some fans. I think one of the reasons she personalized my autograph was because she saw that i was wearing a tour shirt from 95 and i had all my souveniers. Well, in actuality, I think it is absurd and ludicrous that she is placed in this list too. The only reason she is on the list is because Wal-Mart did not like how Sheryl said that kids could buy guns in a Wal-Mart store. Well, the truth hurts, and it is too damn bad. I would never buy anything in Wal-Mart anyway. They destroy the economic fabric of this nation.I have to get off of my soapbox for now. Keep listening to Sheryl. It's no problem...it was 2 years ago so I was oohhh 18...I'm 20 now. We talked about how her singing and her struggle to get where she is has been an inspiration to me. And how because of her I want to be a singer. She was glad she was able to be an idol like that to someone. We talked about our dogs. Scout was soooo cute. But anyway...sorry he was the most adorable dog :) She asked me how long I had been standing outside her bus. I told her. Cuz I had been standin there for like an hour b4 she came out. I reaasured her I wasn't an obsessed fan out to get her. I just wanted to meet her. She laughed. She showed me around her tour bus. OMG! It was awesome inside. She showed me a few guitar rifts. And then she had to get going to her next stop. I shook her hand and thanked her for taking time to talk to me. She said it was no problem. She likes meeting young fans that she's inspired. :) It was so great! That was my meeting with Sheryl. :) I didn't think at the time to get an autograph! April 29, 1999 after 6 long years of trying. A friend sneaked me into soundcheck. She had just rolled off the bus kind of in a hurry but she did stop and sign an autograph and chat for a second. It was absolutely awesome! We made her a huge banner with all of her songs on it (originals & covers..that I know of!) We gave it to her and Tim actually wore the banner on stage at the encore. I have a couple of pictures but don't have my scanner hooked up yet. As soon as I do I will post the pictures. She wouldn't look at the camera though. I guess because she just got off of the bus and hadn't primped up. You can still tell that it's her though. BTW, she is alot shorter than I xpected. -Crystal ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jun 1999 02:37:44 EDT From: SCFANCLUB2@aol.com Subject: CDNow.com Interview http://www.cdnow.com Interview: Sheryl Crow: Woman in the Middle By Gary Graff Madonna may get more headlines. Courtney Love may make more noise. And Alanis Morissette may wear fewer clothes in her videos. But during the past six years, Sheryl Crow has been the uncontested queen of the now dominant "Women in Rock" movement. With seemingly casual assurance, the former Michael Jackson and Don Henley backup singer (from Kennett, Mo.) has racked up three multi-platinum albums, a trove of hit singles and a shelf-full of Grammys, avoiding -- with few exceptions -- tabloid headlines and fits of diva temperament that have marked the careers of many of her peers. Instead, Crow scores attention with her music, and it's been a good year in that regard, too. Her latest album, The Globe Sessions, has been another million-selling, Grammy-gobbling triumph. And its songs, among the most personal Crow has yet recorded, allude to a rededication to her personal life that Crow says has made this a particularly enjoyable time for her. CDNOW: Your current show is a bit more lavish than your others, with the visual projections and everything. Why the bigger presentation? Sheryl Crow: Usually what we do is go out and hang a few curtains, and that's the extent of our production. Then I took some time off so I would really want to go back out, and I was thinking about different things you can do onstage. This time I really wanted to do something different, so we're doing quite a lot of projection as well as using tape loops and some of the sound effects that are on the album. I think people really appreciate it when you bring [them into] a show. Did you enjoy the break from touring? Yeah, but [laughs] I really thought that by taking a year off I would be taking a year off, and I think the biggest lesson I've learned is that my time off is much more strenuous than being on the road. I definitely was very appreciative to have a little time to myself, but I just find that when I'm at home or when I'm on time that's designated as time off, it begins to fill up with stuff that I have to do, such as TV or promotion, or even opportunities that arise, like I've been in the studio with Stevie Nicks. But it was good; it was good to get away from being on the road so solidly. "I really thought that by taking a year off I would be taking a year off, and I think the biggest lesson I've learned is that my time off is much more strenuous than being on the road." It also gave you a chance to have a home -- two, in fact (an apartment in New York and a Spanish-styled house in Los Angeles). How have you taken to owning property? I like it. Part of the thing of being on the road is that feeling of being nomadic and having very little responsibility; that's the part of the road I love best. And I never enjoyed owning a lot of stuff; in fact, I joked about how every time I've had an apartment, I've just walked away, locked the door behind me and let the next person worry about all the junk I left behind. And now I'm starting to sort of conduct my life in more of an adult manner, and I've tried to adjust to having a real home and real responsibilities. And it's fun. It makes me feel like I'm encroaching on a different phase of my life. Is it a matter of reconnecting with or actually creating that aspect of life for yourself? I think probably more than not it was creating it. When I was writing the songs for [The Globe Sessions], I realized that I didn't have anything besides what I'd been doing this whole time. I'd really let my relationships go; I was in a relationship for four years, engaged, and that whole thing. I just let everything get out of balance. So now I make a practice of hanging out and seeing my friends -- that and being quiet, hanging around at home, and reading, and getting back in touch with people that I care about. During your break you also scored one film (Dill Scallion) and acted in another (a junkie in The Minus Man). Would you like to do more movie work in the future? I don't really know. I'm a huge movie lover. I think my feeling on it really is if it was a great role and I felt like I could bring something to it, I'd do it. But my time is so limited, and I don't really care about being just another musician turned actress. My ego isn't set up to want to be in every facet of the entertainment business. Talk about the album you're co-producing for Stevie Nicks. Is this a bit of a reclamation project? I don't know if it's that so much as ... I think the thing she has suffered in the last few years is when she goes into the studio, there's always a male producer that wants to make her into something that is maybe not as intimate as what she sees her music as being. I guess my role is to try and create what she feels is an accurate picture of who she is. It's really challenging just being around her, and trying to get that on tape is going to be the real trick. Will the two of you tour together at some point? We're always talking about that. I mean, you can't believe the stuff we've come up with. We're driving our managers crazy; "O.K., now we need to get a private plane so we can just tour together for all the months of August, September, and October, and we're gonna go out and play three-hour sets." It's over the top, but it's really fun. You just get fired up when you have this connection with somebody, and she is a person that, when you're around her, you feel like you've known her your whole life. "I don't really care about being just another musician turned actress. My ego isn't set up to want to be in every facet of the entertainment business." You're doing your own tour now and you have the Lilith Fair in the summer. What happens after that? I think what I'm going to do is go out on my own for three or four weeks and do some colleges acoustically. It's totally different; you walk out, and you have nothing to rely on but your songs, your ability to play them, and your ability to connect with the audience. And also your sense of humor. I just find I enjoy it; it all basically depends on the mood, whether I'm in a zany mood or a more introspective mood, and every gig has the ability to be something different and something special. I think also, for the people who come to see you, particularly the die-hard fans, it's just another opportunity for them to see the songs performed in a different way, in a different light.
