And I've really been really mad at her and I even thought of not going to her concert. (good for you I did, huh?) Anyway, in the end this is my conclusion (and I'm finally being fair on Sheryl too) She hasn't been around that long, so she's still getting used to it. She got into the red carpet treatment, flash lifestyle and the other cool things that fame brings without thinking enough about what to do with those who follow and support her fame. Journalists, fans, you name it. Yes, she is nicer to journalists (and believe me, the journalists here are hardly deserving of her attention but that's the biz I guess) than fans, but I think she's learning that too. >From what I 've read in reviews on this list and when I contemplate my encounters with the woman, she is definitly happier and healthier, she's majorly improved at what she loves doing and I think that is making her a nicer person and an easier person to be around. She's definitly getting there in my opinion. I know for a fact that she's aware of the Sheryl Crew's existence. Unfortunately modesty, paranoid management and work, work, work is preventing her from doing anything for us at the moment and I do believe that she isn't avoiding us, but waiting till she can give us her undevided attention. My brother knows someone who prints t-shirts I will send out a design and see waht you all think, a competition is a great idea, but who judges??? I could get t-shirts printed but everyone would have to pay that wanted one I'm not out to make a profit but just to cover costs To see how serious this is: Can everyone on the list spare a minute and write me or the crew an e-mail saying if they think t-shirts are a good idea or not: depending on the results....we can go from there........ .TOM. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 16:15:18 EDT From: Surfacin07@aol.com Subject: Re: T-shirts In a message dated 5/11/99 1:26:26 PM Central Daylight Time, rxxb@hotmail.com writes: << This T-shirt idea sounds great. Hi Crew, Michele asked the other day what our opinion was on what an "Official Sheryl Crow Fan Club" should offer her fans. I was the fan that suggested that backstage passes would be a good idea. Jason: I see your point and I agree with it in some respects. I have often felt that it would be a sad deal to not have privacy if you chose to be in the public eye. I would think that a person could be very unhappy without any type of anonymity. However, we're talking "backstage passes", okay? This is the chance where fans are given the opportunity to meet her in a setting that is comfortable for them as well as comfortable for her. She isn't eating dinner in a quiet, candle light setting with close friends and family. She's not going shopping for lingerie with her boyfriend. She isn't taking a stroll through the park with Scout. She is performing and meeting press and fans. I would love the opportunity to meet her, just to say, "you're an inspiration to me and I enjoy what you do." When I went to the concert in Columbia, MO, a lot of people were coming from backstage with signed black and white 8X10 photographs. These people had met Sheryl and Sheryl gave autographs. I think this is pretty normal for pre-concert and post-concert deals. I don't think that if you were standing in line with 10 other people... waiting for an autograph... that Sheryl would think that was an intrusion of privacy. Backstage passes are mainly a way to hype up marketing for radio and album sales. If backstage passes were also offered to a select group of fans, I think it would be mahhh-velous. :o) I agree that fans can become obsessive about their idols, but wanting a backstage pass is not obsessive nor is it wrong. It's a formal and legitimate way to make a dream come true. Gods - stop all this debating of sheryl and her love for fans - if you have any sense of reality you should realise that she is a person who performs - and you are just people who like her music - sheryl performs for the sake of performing and making music - there isnt a debt to us , there is no "we got her where she is, she wouldnt be doing it without us" she just happens to be more publiuc because of you not because of herself , she may make money from us fans, but people should respect others who use their talents to make themselves money. Sheryl would make music whether you were there or not and although she is definately grateful that you like it, you just happen to choose to like her music and pay for it - YOU make that choice, NOT sheryl! Please, respect her as a person - treat her as a person - not as a debt-owing pop star - people have got this completely out of proportion. If you guys get this, could you please respond so I know that I'm doing it right. First of all, I was watching VH1 yesterday and discovered that Sheryl is co-headlining Lilith! I was so excited. This means that she will be in almost every city including Boston! I just saw her one week ago, and I waited for her by her bus, but she ended up coming out a different door and my friends got to meet her. Anyway, I'm not quite sure exactly what this fanclub is. All I know is that I'm a huge fan of Sheryl and I absolutely love her and have for four years.
