Jason Rhoden" Subject: All this fanclub business... I think we should count our blessings that there even is a fan club, or that, even better, there are little fan-run places like this list. As for special CDs for fan club members, yeah, sure that would be nice, but I doubt any of her management wants to do that, considering the capital and energy doing that would involve, and the fact that already she seems to be a little taken aback by bootleg sales of her unreleased LP, she probably wouldn't want to put out a "fan club only" CD, knowing that it would end up selling for $$$ on the secondary market. My stance on the backstage passes thing is scandalous. I think that none of us, especially the "true fan" sort, should be allowed back there at all. I take a seriously hands-off approach to all celebrities that I collect, listen to, whatever, because I want those people to be able to have as normal of a life as they can, without me in their face bugging them. I know Sheryl is gracious to fans and everything, but after all, she's just a person, she doesn't have the secret to the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything, she just happens to be a pop star. Life the day after meeting her for 20 seconds is going to be just the same as the day before. Whereas you wouldn't walk up to the average construction worker and say "hey, Joe, how ya doing", not knowing him at all, people seem to be compelled to do this to pop stars. Poor pop star, is what I have to say. Let the people breathe, do their own thing, and enjoy their life. And, by all means, enjoy yours, and pop down to the local shop and buy whatever you want to keep them afloat. But, you say, shouldn't they expect it, what with being a pop star, and being all popular and wonderful? Well, no. When they are on the stage, yes, they are involved in their craft, doing their job. But once they are off stage, you should give them their life back. And, honestly, wouldn't you feel sorry for somebody stuck in a room full of people who they didn't know, but who were hanging on their every word, waiting for some divine piece of wisdom? I would, which is why, even if Sheryl was in the parking lot outside my apartment, I wouldn't bother her, but just let her do her own thing. (Unless, of course, she was breaking into somebody's house, or being a bit rowdy after a keg party :) ). The world would be a whole lot nicer if some of us "true fans" would just back off and let the girl breathe. At least that's what I think. Jason & Crew, You use the word "pop star". That in itself is not allowing her to be a so called "normal person". She entered this profession, knowing that she would be getting into a world of fans and stalkers, good and bad, admiration and disrespect. I don't mean the music profession, I mean the "pop star" profession. I'm sorry, but if I were to go to a club/pub/concert of an "unknown" artist and I liked his or her music, I would go right on up to them and tell them that I enjoyed it. If I liked it "a lot", I just may hang on his or her every word. It doesn't matter that Sheryl has millions of fans, because it can be treated the same way. Perhaps you don't understand the purpose of a fan club. If you weren't interested in Sheryl Crow or discussing Sheryl Crow or being informed about her, why are you on this mailing list? Maybe you are interested in talking about her, but does that make you or any of us any less of a human being? Being interested in other people's lives or wanting to feel closer some how too them makes us bad people? "The world would be a whole lot nicer if some of us "true fans" would just back off and let the girl breathe." Who isn't letting her breathe? Did Sarah M. create her fan club so the fans could smother her? It separates us from the people who don't care about her. Don't you dare tell me that you wouldn't be happy to get your hands on a rare "for the fans only" cd, even with one song. And please don't tell me that if you saw Sheryl walking towards you, that you wouldn't introduce yourself, because that is crap. Just because she has a fan club doesn't mean that we are going to be backstage passes, or that we are automatically going to become best friends with the woman. It means that she has an understanding that there are people out there that like her a little more than others, and because of it, we'd like to be treated now and again. And what the hell do you know about how Sheryl feels about people selling "special cds" for a higher price?? If everyone worried about that, would so many other artists do it? Don't you think you are worrying a little too much about this? Let me share something with you all. I know what I want to do with my life. I want to be a musician, I wouldn't mind being popular, and I would like to leave the world knowing that I made a difference in someone's life. I will be the first to admit that I have the most selfish reasons in the world to want to be in music, but I also know that I love playing music/singing/performing. When I do make something out of myself, I will have a fan club so I can stay in touch with the people who enjoy my music, because I think it is important to 1. Know who you are playing for. 2. Make sure that the people you are playing for are happy because they'll stay longer. 3. Being a fan of so many others myself, I know what it's like to want so much more from someone you admire or simply enjoy. My point is... if Sheryl was so *upset* with people enjoying her and worried about what people think, she would not be signing autographs at the end of shows or making sure that the audience was enjoying themselves. She would drape herself in black and scurry off to the tour bus like a frightened child. She is a performer. She likes attention. I'm not saying to out and stalk her every move, my point is, finally, that a fan club doesn't hurt _anyone_. *deep breath* I wish I was face to face with everyone because I have the tendency to run off at the mouth, and I know this made no sense to anyone but me. Flame away. Michele "F. Jason Rhoden" wrote: > I think we should count our blessings that there even is a fan club, or > that, even better, there are little fan-run places like this list.
