I'm just trying to piece the pieces together - the Pollstar dates (with a month's break in May) end in the first week of June, which will probably leave about 2 and a half weeks free in June, afterwhich, if the Lilith news is true, it'll be the Lilith Fair all the way. And I think she said that she'd be startign on the next album in the fall. That's Oct? I'm hoping for her to come to Asia in May (hopefully) and perhaps a few more European dates after opening for the Rolling STones, in June. That'll be good wouldnt it? :)) But does anyone have any news? harin >From: "Bianca J Oliverio" >Reply-To: sheryl-crew@smoe.org >To: >Subject: Re: Tour dates >Date: Mon, 5 Apr 1999 08:16:47 -0500 > >check out www.pollstar.com they have dates > >-----Original Message----- >From: Harinder_GREWAL@MCD.gov.sg >To: sheryl-crew@smoe.org >Cc: sheryl-crew@smoe.org >Date: Monday, April 05, 1999 4:38 AM >Subject: Tour dates > > >>Hi Crew, >>Anyone know whether Sheryl will be returning to tour Europe or Australasia? >It >>seems to me that after the US and UK gigs, she'll just tour with the Lilith >>Fair and then retire to record the next album. Sheryl Crow Speaks On Life, Love, And Touring Sheryl Crow "I needed to take some time off so I could enjoy it again," says Sheryl Crow, in attempting to explain why she decided to take an unexpected break from the music business last fall. Following the release of her most critically- acclaimed work to date, The Globe Sessions, winner of the Best Rock Album title at this year's Grammy Awards, Crow opted to do only a handful of major interviews and put tour plans indefinitely on hold. Barring the odd outside project, Crow bought a house in Los Angeles and stayed resolutely focused on finding normalcy. "I just let things get a little unbalanced," Crow, who before the break spent nearly six consecutive years on the road, now admits. "I think everything has to be conducted with a certain amount of levity or balance in order for you to enjoy every aspect of life. One of my shortcomings is that I love working. I love being on the road. I love being busy. Other things sometimes get sacrificed because of that." Indeed, the broken relationships that litter songs like "My Favorite Mistake" and "It Don't Hurt" on The Globe Sessions provide some insight into how fragmented things became for the singer after her debut, 1993's Tuesday Night Music Club, launched a dizzying multi-platinum career. Crow finally brought this potent material to the stage last week with the launch of her tour (allstar, March 19). Accompanied by an elaborate light and stage show, the 37-year-old singer marked her return to the live arena with renewed vigor. "I fully intended to write a rock album when I went in to make The Globe Sessions, and I didn't make that album at all," she says. "What surfaced from having taken some time off by myself and hearing the voice in my own head was this collection of songs. "The only thing I experience now while singing them is the emotion of the experience. Like the song 'It Don't Hurt,' every once in a while I get really mad because the relationship that I was in was really manipulative. I experience that while I'm playing that song onstage and I'm just overwhelmed by it. I think that's good. It keeps you from ever being too removed from the actual story, and I think people can tell whether you are just going through the motions or if you're present or not." Crow insists that her personal life is back in order now, and that she has better perspective on her career. "I'm definitely a realist," she says. "I don't look at the road and think this is the end-all way to exist. I think my personality is built for it because I never surround myself with a lot of people. I'm not a very social person. I'm probably more introspective than people think. So there are things about being on the road that work out great for that, but it isn't satiating as far as reality goes. It doesn't feel all that important." Part Two Of A Two-Part Interview Sheryl Crow Sheryl Crow made a bit of an effort at distancing herself from the music business between the release of her Grammy-winning The Globe Sessions album in September and her current tour opener in Las Vegas March 13. She bought a house in Los Angeles, briefly considered furnishing it, and visited a psychic who told her she would get pregnant in February. What Crow discovered during her time off, however, was that domesticity wasn't really her bag. Before long, she was back to her usual workaholic habits. She played the Campaign for a Landmine- Free World benefit concert in Washington D.C. alongside Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and Steve Earle (allstar, Sep. 24, 1998). She popped up at a Neil Finn show (allstar, Oct. 5, 1998). She contributed music to the Gram Parsons tribute album (allstar, Feb. 16), signed on to perform at the upcoming Johnny Cash tribute concert (allstar, Mar. 17), and even took on the producer role for Stevie Nicks' next disc. "In comparison, being on the road is like a vacation," Crow laughs. Most of her so-called time off, however, was dedicated to the organization of her current tour. Crow wanted a more elaborate show than ever to accompany her latest material. "It's definitely different than what we usually do, which is basically hang a couple curtains and play music," she explains of the new stage set. "This time, I really wanted to do something surprising and artful and different. We bought a bunch of film and great old stock footage on Super 8 and edited some tasteful film stuff together, which we've been projecting onstage. It's a nice marriage with the music, because the music is so cinematic." Crow says The Globe Sessions owes much of its rich tones to her collaboration with Emmylou Harris on "Juanita" for the forthcoming Parsons tribute. "The most interesting thing about that was that we recorded it while I was working on my album, and 'Juanita' became the only track I wanted to listen to," she explains. "It wasn't even from my album, and it became my favorite track. That was what inspired me to go back in and write 'The Difficult Kind,' because I felt there was just something so special and beautiful about it." Crow expects to be on and off the road this year, most likely well into the fall, at which time she will begin work on her fourth disc. "That's my plan," she says. "I haven't even thought about it yet. I think you can go in with great intentions of what you want to do with an album, but you have to follow where the process takes you. I never know exactly what is going to transpire." In the meantime, Crow will duet with Willie Nelson at TNT's An All-Star Tribute To Johnny Cash, although she is not certain what song they will perform. And regarding her plans for the Stevie Nicks album, she sighs, "I haven't even started it yet." - -- Aidin Vaziri ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #71 ********************************
