If you were among the 25,000 gathered in Central Park on Sept. 14 for the show, you had to put up with rain, obtrusive American Express corporate sponsorship and long breaks necessitated by the live TV feed. And, as great as many of the performances were, there was an air of excessive show-off name-dropping to the whole special guest thing, as though Crow were saying, "Look who else is in my Rolodex!" On album though, you've just got fourteen great songs by a great rock & roll band that just happens to be heavy on big name talent... http://rollingstone.tunes.com/sections/news/text/newsarticle.asp?afl=mail2&N ewsID=9855&ArtistID=97 There you go! Bleep? Ohk, I dunno if it was edited the first time it was aired or not. I watched the Central Park concert last nite, the one taped from Vh1 and I noticed they bleeped out the word "acid" in TGTN. It was strange at first cuz I don't recall if it was like that when they did it on Fox. *scratching head* Hmmm...All I can say is it's really annoying and I'd much rather go with a second of silence instead of a "bleeep." Come on folks....we're old enough to handle it right? They didn't do it on the Grammys if I can remember. Oh well...that's television! They are ENTIRELY based on the Billboard Charts and on which acts/songs/albums charted the "most" during the year. In fact, if you were familiar enough with the charts during the year, you could predict the winners completely. So, the "Song of the Year" or whatever they call it, in each category, is simply the one that scored the most "points" on the charts that year. Usually it's the top selling song of the year, and generally has been #1 the longest that year (generally but not always). For example, remember "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston? It was a BIG hit a few years back and did the best on the Pop Chart and so became Billboard's song of the year. So don't be upset that Sheryl wasn't nominated -- it's chart position related only. Not talent. - -Larr __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Dec 1999 16:49:44 -0500 From: "Larry Blumenthal" Subject: [sheryl-crew] Sheryl on Total Request Live (MTV) Whoops it looks like Sheryl was on Total Request Live on MTV on Wednesday (12/8/99) -- did anyone catch this? It didn't appear in the TV Guide Online. The TRL schedule is all messed up too because I missed The Artist who was supposed to be on today but they showed it yesterday (though it's live so I guess it's the schedule that's messed up not the broadcasting of it). Unfortunately they don't re-run Total Request Live.
