I don't know if Howard Stern is on CBS radio or CBS tv. I'm leaving home in three hours and go somewhere where there is a satelitte receiver. I'd like to record Sheryl but I don't what time is the show (Estern?,Pacific, Central time?) and wich channel is playing it. So I hope you understand what I would like. I need some help as soon as possible. Vincent from Belgium. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jun 1999 04:15:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Naoto Hariu Subject: Info about Howard Stern Howard Stern show is a radio show that's on Monday to Friday every morning from 6AM to 10AM. It's a syndicated morning radio show from New York. The highlights of the show is on E! at 11PM 11:30PM, 2PM and 2:30PM. Since E! is a cable channel, one hour highlight is also on CBS on Saturdays. It's on at 11:30PM on Saturday, and I'm pretty sure he's on CBS, because he works for CBS radio. But I guess in some parts of US, he's on FOX. He's some what "over the edge", so he's been canceled in many cities already. She's sang "My Favorite Mistake" and "If It Makes You Happy" last time she was on. But I think IIMYH was a taped live version. Someone else told me that she once sang "Strong Enough" with lyric changes to include "Howard" in the song. He asked her his "typical" question last time, "Being a rock star, do you get to sleep around?". To those who don't know Howard, he's just that. Listen to one show, and you know what I'm talking about. When she was on promoting "Sheryl Crow" CD, he said something like "She's finally getting it, she makes great music, but also has to dress sexy to be successful" The show tonight isn't just about her. It's the highlights of the show, so she might be just on for two minutes. If we're lucky, maybe they'll play the performance of MFM. Last time she was on TV, they only showed her for a minute or so. No songs, Howard just asked his typical questions. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? What she sang was "Are you strong enough to be my man, Howard?" Howard really loves Sheryl he thinks she sings like an angel, which is a lot coming from him cause he barely likes anyone who isn't hard rock, or metal. Howard plays this song a lot at the opening of his show, so listen everyday at 6am and you might be lucky, I've heard it about 3 times played at the opening, but I haven't been able to listen since April cause I have to be at work at 10 to 6am every day, so I miss it. Christina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jun 1999 18:08:30 -0400 From: Kirk Anderson Subject: what gets discussed here I'm going to leave this list soon and that's not a threat 'cause nobody here will miss me, but I've learned that Sheryl Crow appeals to a very VERY wide audience and that 39-year-old men are not a real big part of it, or at least not on this list. Although I saw a lot of people my age at her concert, I feel like an outsider here because the stuff that gets discussed really doesn't interest me more than 10 per cent of the time. I can't relate to "it's great 'cause it's Sheryl and we can't say an uncritical word about her". I'm as big a fan as anybody but I'm too old to be that kind of a fan. I don't think that Madonna or Natalie Merchant or Alanis Morisette should even be mentioned in the same sentence as Sheryl Crow (oops I just did it) --they are not in her league. Madonna is a talented marketeer and very good at offending the Puritans, which is an important calling in modern America, but she has never been a contender, musically speaking. Natalie Merchant sang some intense moving moments on "In My Tribe" but since then is boring boring boring and smug and righteous to boot. Alanis? a pissed-off teenager who was born too late for punk and I don't hold that against her but the 'rage' thing isn't good for more than maybe one album. At least punk's rage went beyond self-pity. Nobody ever talks about Sam Phillips or Rickie Lee Jones here. Or Liz Phair or Joan Osborne or Aimee Mann ('though she also needs to explore themes other than "I'm really pissed off at my boyfriend"). Or even Suzanne Vega. How about Kate Bush? Tori Amos anyone? Roseanne Cash? All of these artists could crop up in a discussion of Sheryl Crow's music without making me wince... and that's not to mention any men. I could not care less how many cd's Sheryl Crow has sold or the chart position of her latest single; it has no effect on my income and nothing to do with her music. Madonna, someone said here just the other day, is the "most successful female artist in pop music history" or some such sheepdip based on sales alone. That doesn't make her a musician. She's an "entertainer". Crow's work is consistently fabulous ALTHOUGH it's a mega-success commercially speaking, is how I see it. I find details about her personal life only marginally interesting, whereas it's rare to see any serious discussion about her MUSIC here... And all this stuff about her cars and boyfriends and clothes and family and youth makes me understand why fans make her a little skittish. I'd be concerned too. Look what happened to Lennon. (He was one of the Beatles.) I don't squirm at Sheryl Crow's references to drugs or her matter-of-fact attitude about sex. Again, it's probably because I came of age in the 70's --like her, pretty much. Her refusal to embrace the post-Reagan "morality" is one of her best qualities and a crucial part of that 70's vibe she's so good at. Don't deny it; deal with it. If it's important stuff, there's usually at least two sides to the story. see ya, k.a. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jun 1999 12:52:49 -0400 From: Kirk Anderson Subject: Re: eating crow copyright They stick that phony copyright notice on bootlegs all the time. I do also like Alanis and Madonna and The Murmurs and Veruca Salt....as well as Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin, Ozzy, etc etc.......I have been a fan of Sheryl's since I saw and heard "Leaving Las Vegas". Record sales also mean nothing to me. So I usually don't post unless I see something like the email u sent. I like discussing opinions and such. I have many different musical tastes. What about the Corrs? Or Everlast? All musicians have their own talents....hence there are different categories for every genre. Now about the Howard Stern thing. Where I am it is on CBS Saturday nights at 11:30pm est. For I am in Massachusetts. Most likely I will watch just to see what Sheryl has been up to lately and then go back and watch SNL. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Howard. But he has to have something interesting on for me to watch. I always manage to watch him on E! everynight at 2-3am. I would tape the Saturday show with Sheryl on it but alas I live at home and no one here but me likes Howard. And the only VCR is in the living room. ~~~TraceY~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jun 1999 12:30:14 PDT From: rica b Subject: Re: old archives and song Hey, Karen I believe the url for the old archives is http://www.smoe.org/lists/sheryl-crew/ I can't say anything about Sheryl and Dwight because I have no idea! I have been a fan of Sheryl's music since Tuesday Night Music Club but I knew nothing about her personal life until I joined this list several months ago. I guess it just isn't important to me what her personal life is like...just her music. But thanks to this list, I've been able to find out her tour dates and tv appearances and other stuff which helps me, among other things, to get to ticketmaster sooner than I otherwise would have. About Sheryl and country music, I have heard her say that she would love to put out a country album but that would be the end of her (LOL). I would indeed love to hear her sing country. She did a country version of "If it makes you happy" on VH1's Storytellers—don't know if you caught that one. Maybe she'll team up with the Dixie Chicks at Lilith Fair. That would be something, eh? Like you, I'm not a big fan of country music but people like Faith Hill, the Dixie Chicks, and Lucinda Williams just open my ears to it. Lucinda Williams is more country rock/folk/blues, whatever. She is so good it's amazing she's not more popular than she is. I have one Dwight Yoakam CD. That's the one with "ain't that lonely yet." I like that one. Can you maybe recommend any of his other CDs? Which one is the one with that song, "Crazy little thing called love."? Okay, i hope I haven't bored you too much. Take Care! It runs on Saturday nights, mostly on CBS television stations, but also on other stations across the country. It is a one-hour show. The show on the cable channel E! is completely different. The E! show is primarily a video tape from his morning radio show. The Saturday night show, on regular (free) television is video from the radio shows also, plus a lot more.....like behind the scenes, animation, etc. So, in some cities, yes, the show might be on Fox, CBS etc. You have to check local listings.
