Sheryl was in Orlando! Ohki Crew, It was all too true and Sheryl *was* here in Orlando after all. grr! And there's a great picture of her in my paper too. The bad thing about it is I would scan it for everyone to see, but this paper is really crappy and makes it look like a bunch of polka dots. Has something to do with the texture of the paper, I wish it was more like the NY Times paper. Oh yeah...here's a Sheryl quote I've always liked: "I've been wondering if all the things I've seen were ever real, ever really happening." It was written by some dude named Adam Engst and sent to the list by Paul, and thankfully so :-) It had nothing to do with Sheryl but it has a lot to do with mailing lists and how to properly partake in one. I assist the owner of smoe.org in certain tasks and I thank Paul for sending that article to this and a few other lists hosted by smoe.org. For those of you that do not know, there are over 80 lists for various functions on smoe.org, most of which are for musical artists. One of the biggest problems on many of the lists, including this one is a major lack of netiquette. The two biggest problems (of many) are one-liner and/or "should be private" emails sent to the list, and the incessant quoting of unneccesary text in a reply to the list(s). Quoting is fine, very necessary, and very encouraged to help substantiate ones' point and/or remind readers of what the reply is referring to, however way too many folks quote an entire message, including headers and sig-files, and that is simply a waste of space. I have been filling in for Lisa (SCFanClub2) as "owner" of sheryl-crew during her lil' vacation to go see her new niece, and have gotten quite a few automatically (by the listserve software) rejected posts soley due to the fact that they were too large. In all the cases, they were small emails and/or replies with TONS of quoted text, in a few cases an entire shery-crew digest attached (20K in size). In those I trimmed the unnecesary text and sent the post on. However smaller posts with extra quoted text is a "growing" problem. Each and every post sent to smoe.org is archived twice on the systems' hard drives. Once as a single post, again in a digest archive. So any extra quoted-text gets archived twice, and eats up storage space. It all adds up. There are many other valid points that article made.....like long sig files. Nothing irks me more on some other lists I run when a person sends more than a few short replies to a list on a certain day, and their sig file is 4 times as large as their message. It all adds up to wasted space, and of course makes it harder on the reader to sift through the daily email. It may be for some and not for others, but I can sure tell you it doesn't put me into a depression like country does. I need therapy after a few songs from the good ol' country land. Nothing personal to those who like country, but it does not even compare. Some country songs aren't sad. Songs like Faith Hill's "This Kiss" or Jo Dee Messima's "Alright." These songs aren't sad at all. One is a celebration of love and the other (at least I think) is a "I've been dumped and am doin' just fine" type of song. Of course I could go on and on. Scrap that. A true country fan could go on and on. I'm not fully versed on that genre of music. But I do know that it is a very valid and expressive form of music. Maybe more superficial even. I say that because the songwriters tend to wear their heart on their sleeve in the most vulnerable type of way. And I think Sheryl has definitley done this in TGS. The album is VERY country. I remember Sheryl being quoted as saying a long time ago that her next album might be a very experimental type of album. Very different from what her fans might expect or be used to. I think this is that album. It is very different from SC. And I think it is very country. I also remember that she went on to say that she might loose a few fans over it. And I think this album IS very daring and I think it does mesh a strong country, southern-ness with her earlier, rock work. Dontcha think?
