["Jean-Christophe Counio" Subject: The best day of my life (Phoenix Show, part 1) Crew, "No words to say, no words to convey, this feeling inside, I have for..." the day that has passed. By far the best day of my whole life ever, where should I start ? My throat hurts, that's a start. Fine, fine, here's the set list to start: Maybe That's Something My Favorite Mistake A Change Leaving Las Vegas Anything But Down It Don't Hurt (Introduced her band here) Riverwide (Kick ass, amazing, wow) If IT Makes You Happy Am I Getting Through ? (Part I and amazing part II) Difficult Kind Sweet Rosalyn Members Only All I Wanna Do There Goes The Neighborhood - ----------------------------- Strong Enough (With Stevie Nicks) Mississippi Everyday Is A Winding Road - ------------------------------ Home I'll make it short, whoever wants a more detailed version I'll send you one. Anyway, I got to the venue, watched Eagle Eye Cherry, who put on a great show for my surprise. Sheryl comes on, with the lights blinding the whole crowd, you could only see her shadow, then they dim them and the song goes on. My Favorite Mistake comes on and I realize she's about 15 feet away, I cry a little bit, sorry, got carried away... ...what a rush. A Change was next, she basically told us not to care about security and stand up and shake our asses as much as we wanted, cause we were there to have fun. Right ? I thought so too... Leaving Las Vegas, changed the line "Used to be I could drive up to 'bars' for the night" with 'Phoenix', just like live from London. bla blab bla bla It don't Hurt - Things you do when you dump a boyfriend like getting a haircut. Band Introduced, where everyone was front Phoenix, Mesa (Phoenix area), and Tucson (in Arizona), quite funny, everyone except the cello player from San Francisco. Very funny part. bla bla bla The Difficult Kind, I halled my ass by the aisle where I stood with my rose till the fuc..ing security came and told me to go back to my seat. Ahhhhhhh... Strong Enough - Stevie Nicks came on and the whole theatre went insane, about 30 seconds of noise, I mean NOISE. Great performance, although she started off tune (I doubt a lot of people noticed) and she messed up just a tiny bit of the lyrics. Hug hug, kiss kiss, see ya tomorrow Stevie (Ahhhh, some Fleetwood Mac action, classic). By Everyday Is A Winding Road I was upfront with everyone else, she sang home when she started over after realizing her microphone was too far away. I waved my rose by she went and looked the other way, ah well... Went outside, where I met Ashley (from this list), very nice guy, hello! Then met Angie (actually met between Eagle Eye Cherry), and talked and talked, how nice she is, really cool girl. Bought a whole bunch of stuff, and went to wait outside. No Sheryl, but my hand got inches away from touching Stevie Nicks' hands when she went by, and talked and got my program signed by Jim Boggios, so did Angie. What a nice guy. Talked about the grammy performance, about the show, just talked, really cool guy, loved it, and so nice. Well people, for those of you who didn't delete this message and stayed up reading it, that's it, I'll write more details if you want, but it's kind of late, and I have a test to study for, and still gotta go to bed. David, for sure the most happy man alive.... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 07:24:26 EST From: "Pierre David" Subject: Sheryl & the Beatles Greetings my fellow Sheryloholics, da Sheryl Crew! As i listen to most of Sheryl's music, i notice that there is defenitely a Beatles influence in it. She even mentions John Lennon in Maybe angels "She knows Jesus, John Lennon, and Cobain personally" I know for a fact that she also covered Ticket to ride and "I got a feeling" both beatles songs in concert along with a few solo Lennon songs, "COld Turkey" and some other song which escapes me at the moment. So obviously the beatles and lennon were a influence to SHeryl, but i was wondering what others thought about this? Did she ever mention the beatles in any interviews or anything? How much of a role did the Beatles have in shaping SHeryl's style as a musician? Well, i hope to get some feedback soon! Whoever is handeling this group is a class act. BTW, speaking of class, annabegins has re-spelled Sheryls name with an underlined "S" and I didn't see the "skank" banner when I when in to her page. I keep java turned off so that may be why I didn't get the skank stuff. I was right behind the soundboard (why the heck couldn't I take something to record with?!?) and in one of the first couple rows underneath the balcony. Eagle Eye Cherry's music is a great opener for Sheryl, and a lot of the crowd seemed to get into his last song (Save Tonight). But he obviously knows no one really cared about seeing him, poor guy hehe. Unfortunately, I had these drunk people in front of me who were practically ready to drop their pants right there and have sex. And to the left of me, I had smokers. Ahhh well, what can you do (it IS Phoenix, so *shrug*) *grin* And I must say, Sheryl has the cutest belly ever. *rour* >Strong Enough - Stevie Nicks came on and the whole theatre went insane, >about 30 seconds of noise, I mean NOISE. That was loud as hell, I didn't know that Phoenix liked her so freakin' much. And, yeah, that off key was pretty blatant. All in all, Sheryl Crow is completely AWESOME live. If you haven't seen her before, go get tickets. I'm sure she'll be playing somewhere within driving distance. Hell, I drove 2 hours and I think David had about that long a drive too. Unfortunately, "field recordings" (as I like to call them because boots carry such a negative term) are market driven and so far there has not been a huge demand for Sheryl Crow field recordings. The big demand is for the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Springsteen, Neil Young. Incredible industries have spread around these artists--not only in "field recordings" but albums taken from outtakes of studio recordings. (For example, there is an incredible Dylan boot called "Blood on the Tapes" that contains the alternate versions of the songs that wound up on "Blood on the Tracks." Another Dylan "field recordings," called "Guitars Kissing and the Contemporary Fix" became such a staple in the collection of Dylan afficionados that Sony Records last year finally released the "official" version of it.) With todays CDs player, the making of field recordings is a precise process. No longer can you go into a hall with a little portable tape recorder and get the results that are required. It needs people with DAT equipment and then the ability to burn those into glass CDs (there is a lot of resistance among collectors to CDRs) and I'm not sure that type of sophisticated industry has sprung up around Sheryl like it has among the other artists I have mentioned. There also has to be a real need to purchase "field recordings." For instance, Bob Dylan in concert is nothing like Bob Dylan on record. He completely re-arranges all of his songs and most of them feature long, improvised instrumental breaks. Seeing Dylan live is more like seeing the Grateful Dead live, which also never came across on record. Springsteen live is also a completely different experience than Springsteen on record. So what is needed for a successful Sheryl Crow field recording industry is: 1. A much greater public demand for these recordings, 2. The recording expertise to digitally reproduce the sessions, 3. Music that is completely separate and unique from what Sheryl offers on her studio albums. This is a long-winded answer to your very direct question, but it may go to explain why you'r having problems locating Sheryl "field recordings." I shop at places that have a wide variety of these products, yet I have yet to see a single one in the Sheryl Crow section--however, I keep on looking. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 20:14:55 +0100 From: "Martin Oliver" Subject: Re: Sheryl & the Beatles I think that you could find Beatles influences in most rock and pop since the 60's.
