I mean, it's not exactly a "creative statement" when the label pushes out 2 or 3 single sets, several of which have tracks that we already have several times (remember that edition of "Home", with three LP tracks and the LP version of "Home"? That was a deep artistic statement!) So, what she and the label are *really* saying is that they have great (and not unfounded) concerns about their wallets. I have no problem with their dislike of MP3s, it is an important intellectual property issue (and don't believe that 24 hour rule business, they're ALL illegal), but I think her answer is less honest than the reality. Maybe I'm being cynical, but MP3s scare the bleep out of the record industry and artists, not because of grand artistic concerns (which I also heard Paul McCartney saying a while back), but because they are afraid that their work will cease to be a source of income, and become public property. Oh, and by the way, we dont need MP3s to hear "Resuscitation", we can go to the store and buy the soundtrack to "The Faculty", the UK TGS (and the 2cd TGS) and the Japanese TGS. If you want to help Sheryl make a living, go out and buy it :) Thats what I think, at least... There have been a couple of mentions of possibly taping the various concerts iof the new tour and such and i for one am commited to getting the Toronto concert taped. I think it would be pretty cool, if we could create like a "database" of the new Sheryl concert tapes, so if you tape a concert you can make copies for everyone interested and in return you get copies of all the other cocerts taped, in the "database"!That way, everyone can have access to some great Sheryl music that they haven't heard and it spreads it around. Well, thats basicly my ides, so if anyone has any feedback or want to participate or has already taped a show of the nour tour, let the list know! So, anyway, if you're interested in the CDs, I'll be happy to get them for you, at cost plus packaging and registered postage. I cant promise you the TNMC double-Cds but the others are widely available. harin odelay@singnet.com.sg on 15/03/99 19:45:03 To: Harinder GREWAL/MCD/SINGOV@SINGOV cc: Subject: Re: Harinder, I do not wish to sound offensive here. But I am just trying doing a business here. I am defintely not trying to trade with anyone a CD or 2. I don't think anyone can have a say in saying what price I decide to sell the CD for. I am not ashamed to say that I am out to make a profit. But I hope you put this in mind. It's not about marking up a CD by 50% or more. Who's going to pay for the postgae and handling prices? How about the admin costs? And this internet bill for sending tons and tons of emails across the globe? After deducting all expenses, I don't think I am wrong to make a profit of at least 10 bucks. I mean do you expect me send all these CDs across the globe and not making a profit while my actual intention is to do business? I know you stayed in Singapore. Look at HMV. They are marking up most CDs by 10 bucks. Are you going to say they are not supposed to do that? Furthermore, by selling a CD for US$30 is the normal rate that is going for in the States for 2CD. you could always check it up in the States. I mean if you still think I am ripping off your friends. I suggest that why don't you do them a kind deed and send the CDs to them? Handling almost 50 orders a day is not an easy task. I have better things to do, really. I don't mind if you wish to "dispose" me, so called. I don't think I am doing any wrong nor committing any offence. Anyway, take care and it's nice you email. Have a nice day.
