Yes, I love Sheryl, and she just happens to be something the "Academy" also "likes". She didn't win a Grammy or two? Big deal. 95% of the music I listen to (and judging by posts by other listees, I'm not the only one) will *never* even be nominated for a Grammy. Do I care? No. It is not who wins awards. It all comes down to who you like to listen to. No more, no less. End of rant :) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 20:05:51 PST From: "David Ribeiro" Subject: Re: The Grammy's Dave, from one Dave to another, I couldn't agree more, awards are pieces of metal and plastic. If one's happy with his music that's all it takes. Nominations are only given to artists who gets played a lot on the radio, and a lot of it is crap, boils down to making money... So it's cool she won some awards but doesn't mean the ones that won are the best, to the judges maybe... Her speech was really emotional, and her voice cracked when she was talking about a&m and I was really moved by it, Lol as a matter of fact I almost cried (which, I like never do) when I heard it (Sheryl seemed like she almost lost it too)..I smiled when she thanked Owen and her family in Kennett, you could tell she was really happy to win. Did anyone watch Rosie O' Donnell today? I happened to flip through and they had like a 3 minute interview and sheryl herself said she thought she was a long shot, and that maybe she might win 1 (Argh i wish she was wrong about that)..Anyways it was nice to see, in the past it seemed like pre grammy shows usually ignored Sheryl The performance, OMG was excellent. I was so happy to hear it, and I think it was hands down the best performance of the night. The rest of the show, well let's just say was less than entertaining... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 01:19:38 -0500 (EST) From: David Jirku Subject: Mark Goodier Show date? Hey, Does anyone know the date of the original broadcast of the Mark Goodier Show that the version of Mississippi on the ABD single? Thanks, Dave ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 02:03:24 -0500 (EST) From: Jennifer Cooper Subject: Grammies and Fanatic hi all- I love Rosie O'donnell but did anyone else think the whole Grammy telecast was kind of lame? i was so happy when Shirley Manson (Garbage) didn't say the (probably lame) follow-up punch-line to Billy Corgan who was being an ass. She is awesome and if Sheryl didn't win Best Rock Album I would have been just as happy to see Garbage get it. Sheryl's performance was great too, and i was loving that bass guitar. So what did everyone think of the fan they picked for Fanatic? I thought he was cool and Sheryl was so warm and genuine with him, it was awesome. he asked some good questions and tehn Sheryl asked him questions which i thought was great. i don't watch that show much but i can't remember another celebrity who actually took the time to try to get to know the fan a little better. I thought i would be jealous watching another fan meet Sheryl but i really enjoyed the whole thing quite a bit. wishing that double espesso i drank would wear off so i could get more than 3 hours of sleep tonight, Jen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 23:38:52 PST From: "David Ribeiro" Subject: Grammies and Fanatic Jen, The Grammy's were indeed kind of lame... Highlights were Sheryl's performance, Santana on the guitar for Lauryn Hill, no one mentioned him... ...then Sheryl winning the award of course, and Rosie's little singing bits is what kept it alive. As far as FANatic I thought I'd be jealous too, but I actually was happy for Brian, seemed to be a good fan, I wouldn't say #1, though we all think we're the #1 fans, don't we ? I mean, we're fairly obcessed, and I really don't care when people say I'm obcessed with Sheryl, my room's proof of it, and my CD collection, web sites, etc... Oh well, more next year, David ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 02:41:26 EST From: RLmom2JJ@aol.com Subject: Sheryl's FANatic and Grammys Since the Grammys weren't live here on the West Coast I could happily forego the last hour knowing that Sheryl only won Rock Album. Did anyone see her in the crowd? I kept looking and didn't see her at all during the part of the show that I did watch. Did she present any of the televised awards? I saw her on several pre-Grammy interviews and all I really noticed was that she was chewing gum which I thought was funny. So since I didn't have to watch the Grammys I was able to tune into Fanatic at 10:30 pm and I thought it was wonderful. She was so very gracious and interested in Brian The Fan (although inside I'm still mad as heck that I didn't get more of a chance to be The Fan) and seemed so very, very nice and as down-to-earth as I imagine her to be. I was so happy to see her come across that way. What did y'all think? I know Fanatic repeats on MTV on Saturday at noon for those of you who didn't see it. One thing I did think was funny and perhaps it was due to editing but usually when the Fan sits down they start firing the questions immediately. I noticed that Sheryl actually asked the first question (she asked Brian what he was studying) and I wonder if that comes from her Southern background of being polite and not talking about yourself too much (something she's mentioned in previous interviews). Oh and I thought it was so cute that Scout curled up on Brian's feet. :-) Good doggie. Still wish it was one of us on the list who was the Fan so that we could get the inside scoop. Maybe we can track old Brian down and give him a call, eh? LOL! One other thing that was interesting today (so much Sheryl to see on tv - big day) was when she was talking to Rosie O'Donnell and she mentioned that right before the Grammy nominations came out she had said to her managers that no one was really noticing her album and that maybe she should take some time off, go back to school, take some classes, etc. and the next morning her mom called her saying "congratulations honey - 6 nominations!" and Sheryl hadn't even realized that the nominations were being announced. Congrats to Sheryl on her Grammy win! LeeAnne ------------------------------ End of sheryl-crew-digest V2 #10 ********************************
