Layout's being completed, final art selected and dropped into the page proofs, etc. At the end of this week, or the beginning of next, I hafta shoot down to NYC to sign off on the galleys and, if need be, have the layout guy make any last alterations--I'm sure there will be at least one day of me in the publishers Lower East Side offices, scanning the proofs and making suggestions, if not actual corrections. From there, it's off to the printers. It's been an equally rewarding and exhausing experience--writing/assembling collages of quotations is fun, but the bureacracy involved in the print world is just stunning, just unbelievable, and publishing moves at a VERY....SLOW...PACE. I signed the contract for the book a year and a half ago, and since then it's been through 3 editors, five text edits, a thousand bucks in transatlantic phone calls, Warner Bros. Legal Department...I could go on....it's been a lesson in patience. However, depending on the printers' pipeline, this book will be printed and shipping between July 15 and the 30th. I can't forward any teasers, but I'd have to say my favorite part is the beginning, about all the Eric's stuff. And the photos--particularly those by Gary Lornie--are fantastic. I'm extremely pleased to report that the book is selling very well on Amazon.com, Bunnymen.com, and BarnesandNoble.com. The projected first print run has already sold out on word of mouth alone, virtually no advertising. - --Chris A. I agree with Matt's statements that the rules should be agreed upon by all on the list. I disagree with Zap's rebuttal - "these are the rules - agree to them or leave" I think you're just asking for a fight with a statement like that. Had these been the stated rules of the list from the beginning, perhaps I could support that decree. I agree with Matt's statement that the list belongs to all of us, and that Zap has taken the title of list 'owner' to the extreme. I am certain that Zap's intentions are good, but am just as certain the mantle of 'ownership' wouldn't have been passed to him if the previous 'owner' felt it would come to a 'I'm the owner - my way or the highway' policy. I think the rules that you've created, Zap, are sound, and are consistent with those put forth in similar attempts by every previous list 'owner' . However, I believe the same rules could have been agreed upon by means of polling or some such, and would have been more palatable if presented in that manner. I'm quite concerned about the allegation that posts have been edited. I think a post should be either allowed or disallowed, but not edited, then sent to the list. If a post is disallowed, a simple private note to the poster, indicating why it was disallowed, and a suggestion of how it might be changed to fit the list rules may be more appropriate. Zap's final statement, "Let common sense and a respect for the fellow fans of the band we all love be your guide!" is great. Problem is, in the way he's presented the rules, some list users may feel disrespected. Switching back to lurk mode now, as I've been for several months. If there is something you feel Is unnacceptable in them by all means bring it to my attention for consideration, Or clarification. Regardless of my presentation on this matter, the rules I set forth are not Outrageous or otherwise abusive to peoples so called "rights". And they *WILL* stand, until I am convinced of a better way. Also, the people you refer to who may feel disrespected, have Likely only reaped what they've sown... So be it. To further address matt's post about the list dying... I really disagree with the sentiment... FYI then IMHO and all that stuff.... Got there half way through The Cooper Temple Clause set. Sounded OK but seem like yet-just-another-neo-psychedelic-guitar-thrash band. Having said that I wasn't really listening as I spent most of the first half hour trying to unzip my kagool enough to get it over my head. Bunny's on next and apart from the usual setlist they semed in fine form - - can't remember everything but no Ocean Rain. There was a definite movement of casual bystanders down to the front when they came on and they seemd to be getting a good reception despite the rain and the fact that they were in a field and not in a darkened theatre. I was stood back a bit just to the side of the mixing desk and the sound was OK but not brilliant. I did shufty down the front a bit later for the Super Furries and the sound quality was definitely better in the middle. You can't help thinking though, that for anyone seeing them for the first time in twenty years that they're no more than a golden oldies band: the only nod to the new was Flowers, Eternity Turns and NLF. As these fit in well enough I dunno why they don't do more new stuff. I suppose you could say much the same about New Order's set, but there again they were the headline band and perhaps more to the point I haven't seen them several times in the last couple of years. Other things to moan about, since I am in the mood....... Mac brought on his latest best mate - Chris Coldplay to sing backing vocals on NLF, a pretty pointless excercise if you ask me as he didn't really add anything to the song - is it supposed to give Mac some kind of cred or something? And the Do It Clean/Acapella Mac/Roadhouse Blues/Do It Clean was fairly crap and in the middle of the afternoon in the pouring rain the odd puffs of smoke from the smoke machines seemed a bit superfluous. The rest was all good and they could have easily pulled off main support over the Suyper Furry Wotsits and Air. Super Furry Animals were very nice - as were Air. If anyone's read Nick Hornby's latest then his description of Air seems spot on. The weather broke a bit during Air's set and then returned by pissing down big time. Then just before New Order appeared the clouds went and the sun came out (a bit). New Order were excellent - and in high spirits - a few from the new album mixed with the golden oldies (Blue Monday, Bizarre Love Triangle, Temptation True Faith etc), that one from the Beach and the World Cup song plus more than a smattering of Joy Division - Transmission, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Atmosphere, Digital and ...er, maybe more. Barney was full of banter which, oddly enough you could understand every word of. Hooky had Bye Bye Dee Dee painted on his stack and still insists on playing his bass around his ankles and still doesn't appear to more than two or three notes below the twelfth fret. And whatever Stephen Morris does at the back there is obviously superb. They brought on John Simm, not from the toilets, but the side of the stage for Digital (I think) but he seemed a bit embarrassed and just wandered around the stage a bit. Finished with a cracking Your Silent face. Yep, no Ocean Rain.........but plenty of festival rain, I was standing at the barricade (of course) just under the edge of the bit of stage roof that every now and again emptied it's watery load, it was like having buckets of cold water thrown over you when you least expect it!! Yep, the atmosphere was good down the front considering the above.....Stu got a possy of people (who looked like they wanted to get into it but needed encouraging) to get a bit of a 'mosh' going......and Trina said there were quite a few people dancing over to the side of the crowd too.....
