Trying to identify song and artist for a number of songs heard recently, unfortunately they're mostly instrumental which makes it a real challenge. Any suggestions appreciated to help track it down. Sort of reminiscent of Joy Division but with few or no vocals... I think it would be fair to call it goth... the most notable things were a very heavy hypnotic or "pulsing" type bass/drum line and fairly shrill or sparkly synth keyboard embellishments periodically intruding, but then receding. An overall eerie/anxious/spacey effect. I know these songs are from some years ago, probably some 80s synth group... Thanks for any thoughts. From the BBC... Punk pioneer Dee Dee Ramone, a founder member of the Ramones, has been found dead at his home in Hollywood aged 50. Ramone, whose real name was Douglas Glenn Colvin, was found dead on his couch by his wife when she returned home on Wednesday evening. The Los Angeles coroner's office said drug paraphernalia, including a single syringe had been found in his home. "We are handling it as a possible accidental overdose," coroner's office operations chief Craig Harvey said. Mr Harvey did not say which drug was suspected of causing his death. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Thursday. UK success Dee Dee Ramone was part of the band's first line-up when it was founded in Queens, New York, in 1974. All of the group's members adopted the surname Ramone and dressed in torn blue jeans and leather jackets, as a tribute to 1950s rock stars. Their debut album was released in 1976, but it was in the UK where they found early success, influencing punk acts like the Sex Pistols. Their best-known songs reflected their lifestyle - I Wanna Be Sedated, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Teenage Lobotomy, and Sheena Is A Punk Rocker. Ramone left the band in 1989 to pursue a rap career - which failed - and later formed his own band, Chinese Dragons. Drug struggle The Ramones finally disbanded in 1996, and lead singer Joey Ramone died in April 2001 of lymphoma, a form of cancer, aged 49. In his autobiography - Lobotomy: Surviving The Ramones - Dee Dee Ramone wrote about his struggle with alcohol and drug abuse. The bassist's death comes 11 weeks after the band was celebrated with induction into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, Ramone joked: "I'd like to congratulate myself, and thank myself, and give myself a big pat on the back. "Thank you, Dee Dee, you're very wonderful." - -- Barry Whiting barry@urquell.freeserve.co.uk ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 15:04:53 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas Rushian Roulette (OT) > Good morning ladies and germs. I'm serious this time. Actually, Bob and Doug McKenzie, have already invented a similar game. Those wacky Canadian brothers, who got Geddy Lee to sing their theme song, call it "Beerhunter." For those of you unlucky enough to not know of this drinking game, the rules are: * take a unit of canned beer (six pack, twelve pack, case, ice chest) * each player chooses one beer and shakes it up, then while the others aren't looking, replaces it into the container (note: best results are obtained if each player takes a beer AT THE SAME time, so that the maximum number of cans are shaken) * then, going round in a circle, the players choose a beer, and top the top right next to their head. If the player isn't instantly foamed, s/he must drink the beer (hard game, I know). Continue until out of beer or out of players. - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2002 17:14:10 -0400 From: Subject: Re: seven-seas Hello on 6/5/02 6:59 PM, Louie at MrMentalist@thevalliumdispenser.fsworld.co.uk wrote: > Hello Seven-seas > > Hi louie. how are you? im jackie. i dont say much. hope you like seven seas. - -J ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2002 19:51:09 -0400 From: "Stephen Vilnius" Subject: seven-seas Liverpool After being back in the States for a month now, I decided to post and wax on about how much I loved (and now miss) England. And yes, I've tried to make crude versions with crescent dough, with various degrees of no success. Can't find anything except smoked type sausage and THOSE aren't even close. ?#2 While we were in Liverpool (loved Liverpool, doesn't it just have this great vibe; and yes, I was told by a few that they've "cleaned it up a bit" the last few years. Cains Ale, which we had @The Grapes (across from the Cavern on Mathew Street) is quite wonderful! Does any one know if it is available ANYWHERE in the States? What about Tetleys Bitter? Southport is also quite nice; I sort of wish we weren't constantly hung over so we could have enjoyed a few more sites. But being a serial tourist wasn't what we wanted to do anyway. Stone Henge was about the extent of touristy stuff and also a quick early eve trek to Buckingham Palace. Also, we ALMOST made the Shepherd's Bush gig! The Tube is wonderful, but the weight of our cases were dislocating my elbows and the taxi ride was a financial bitter-sweet experiance. Another was when we paid 23 pounds in Manchester, when we got off the train in Manchester Picadilly and needed to get off near the airport. 23 pounds on that one. Sorry Red, you kept telling me to always ask someone... And why were the hotels in Liverpool (Camponile) and Manchester (Moat House) so much nicer and cheaper that London (The Derby in Earls Court)? A great trip and I could go on forever but won't. Please help regarding sausage roll sausages and Cains Ale! Oh, Zap love? The Wings always need a kick start but watch the amount of Carolina pride!
