It's grated ice... the finer the better... sometimes it's actually grated, sometimes the ice is shaved off a block of ice, and sometimes it's just crushed... but the more you can approximate the texture of snow (which we rarely get), the better. The ice is put in a traditional cone, a sort of wax-coated paper funnel with a closed end, and then doused with an obscenely bright and poisonously sugared liquid of your choice. They *always* have cherry, which is sort of the American default sweets flavour; and nearly always grape. Some places have scores of flavours, including PICKLE. For kids or those expecting kids ;-) Kids also go in for rainbow snowcones, which are usually extra: the cone is striped like a clown's head with red, yellow, and blue (cherry, pineapple, and coconut). Why I rather liked the concept of shaving ourselves! :-) The alcoholic version, of course, is all the "chick drinks" like frozen daiquiris and pina coladas.... yum.... Actually I need to try a rum and coke snowcone sometime, with a squeeze of lime. I can do that next I'm in my hometown. - --Amy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 18:16:27 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Rupp) Subject: Re: Re: seven-seas *yawn* > ERRRRRRRR - I object to being called a pensioner .... ;-/ I was sorta teasing Matt ;-) Here in the US there are various age groupings for the purpose of demographics: 0-17 18-34 35-55 55+ Truly most retirees (pensioners) would fall into the last group. However, one can be a member of the American Association of Retired Persons at age 50 -- therefore moving the age of what we call a "senior citizen" down into the 35-55 bracket. And entitling same to discounts when dining out, etc. - --Amy (the advertisers use these age groups, mostly; and they overwhelmingly sell to the young) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 19:11:07 -0400 From: "Nate V" Subject: Re: seven-seas Heaven and Bliss > Why I rather liked the concept of shaving ourselves! :-) Ok but no straight razors or nair n8 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 18:20:35 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas *yawn* > >... we have to BEG the 2.5 yo to go to bed... > > No offence...but it sounds like > somebunny needs her butt whipped! ;-) None taken... we do timeout and it works. Except at bedtime. You're right, though, parents do need to be the boss. We made the mistake of letting our eldest have WAY too much a say in things when she was younger and it was just the three of us and I worked (full-time). We don't burden the youngest with those choices and she doesn't miss them. Can you imagine we used to rotate nights on where we wanted to eat out, and gave our preschooler an equal say? It was fine as long as she ate a more varied diet, but when she started to want only McDonald's and Burger King and the like, we stopped letting her choose, a thing she's still resentful about! But we learned our lesson. - --Amy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2002 00:46:27 +0100 From: "K.P.Jacques" Subject: seven-seas Ageism and goals. Hey Matt nice goal for the Irish by Matt Holland huh? Pity he couldn't have produced a few more like that last season. I can't sleep tonight I'm just too damn excited.
