So there. Sorry. See you in the spring. Hope you didn't buy non-refundable airplane tickets, or stuff like that. And it's too bad Ticketmaster won't refund those service fees. Ta. Oh, and by the way, check out the new Bunnymen U.S. store. I think it's great that you get to buy digital downloads and a physical copy of the new album as a package, because everyone wants two copies of it. Right?" Has anybody been able to ferret out the actual tax code they're blaming? It's supposed to be a fee that's imposed on a band that returns to play here within 30 days of its last stateside date. Shouldn't they have known about this fee when they booked the dates? The naysayer in me thinks that perhaps the fall dates weren't selling too well, so they said, let's shelve those dates while blaming an obscure tax law, and return for a full blown tour next year. Business-wise, it would make sense. - --- On Fri, 11/6/09, seven-seas-digest wrote: > From: seven-seas-digest > Subject: seven-seas-digest V7 #184 > To: seven-seas-digest@smoe.org > Date: Friday, November 6, 2009, 4:10 AM > > seven-seas-digest Friday, > November 6 2009 Volume 07 : > Number 184 > > > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Date: Thu, 5 Nov 2009 16:06:39 -0800 > From: Charles Pham > Subject: seven-seas bunnymen cancels US tour > > from their twitter posts: > > "With regret the Bunnymen have to announce the cancellation > of the USA > Nov tour to the USA IRS .Full East & West coast tour in > April 2010" > > "The tour is canceled due to unreasonable demands from the > IRS." > > http://twitter.com/OfficialEATB > > - -- > Charles > > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info > http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ > http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ > http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > * > > ------------------------------ > > End of seven-seas-digest V7 #184 > ******************************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Nov 2009 19:45:44 -0800 From: "Paige K. Parsons" Subject: seven-seas Re: bunnymen cancel US tour From an email message from the bunnymen tonight: "The cancellation of the tour is due to the rejection of the band's Central Withholding Agreement (CWA) by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The rejection was unexpected as the Echo & the Bunnymen team submitted the necessary paperwork in due time and in accordance with the process that had been followed on previous tours. Additionally, the IRS offered no reasoning for the rejection and was unresponsive to our inquiries. This CWA allows for foreign entertainers to be paid in full, otherwise promoters are legally obliged to withhold a minimum of 30% in lieu of tax which ultimately will not allow for a tour to happen at this time." So no extra taxes or fees, tour is cancelled just because they have to have withholding on their US income and file a tax return? I love how all the press reports claim that this happened because of a "One off show in NY last month." The Ocean Rain tour was hardly a "one off" show. Susan's right - completely unprofessional. But why should that surprise me... Pete flaked on my "confirmed" photopass for the Fox, they still have yet to deliver the promised prize for winning their RCMH photoblog contest last year. Peter Allen refuses to answer any mail about it, the band claim ignorance even after whomever tweets from OfficialEATB tweeted to me, "so sorry, I'll make sure it gets to the mail even if I have to drag it there myself." Twenty-five years of good will are quickly being pissed down the drain. Couldn't be more bummed. - Paige On Nov 6, 2009, at 8:40 AM, susan dennis wrote: > More like, "The tour is cancelled due to unreasonable demands from > the IRS that we were supposed to know about, but since we don't > employ top-notch accountants and tax experts, we didn't.
