Seems a bit daft that if you mention the villiersterrace.com site its automatically censored. Peter wossname does do a largely good job, he's taken a step up in design skills on the new site, but he's no good at the PR side. As for the fountain. rubbish really, though there's a couple of songs i quite like despite them being not disimilar to the others. The song proxy is embarrasingly bad. I put it (the album) on the other evening and took it off less than half way through, thinking oh no, if i leave it on much longer i'll have to listen to 'drivetime'. I bought the bad luitenant album at the same time and thats a bit of a grower. got a brilliant air of melancholy about it (no enforced jollity there) - sounds similar to the last two NO albums to me but then thats a good thing. The Heaven gig was a cracker. The other fella (Jake) singing in the band works really well. They also did Crystal, Temptation, Out of Control (The Chems were in the house apparently) and finished with Transmission and Love Will Tear Us Apart. They could easily have done without doing the covers with some in the crowd shouting for more BL stuff. A Hook-less New Order for sure but fine tunes. Its interesting that the two album releases and gigs were so close together from favourite artists of mine from the same era but the results so different. Perhaps they should tour together and alternate headliners... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-seven-seas@smoe.org [mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Pete T Sent: 31 October 2009 10:29 To: Seven Seas Subject: RE: seven-seas Echo And The Bunnymen are to release a live album I bought the bad luitenant album at the same time and thats a bit of a grower. got a brilliant air of melancholy about it (no enforced jollity there) - sounds similar to the last two NO albums to me but then thats a good thing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Oct 2009 08:56:35 -0700 From: Charles Pham Subject: Re: seven-seas Bad Lieutenant / Bunnymen Album agreed, the bad lieutenant record is pretty fresh sounding and jake the second vocalist is a grower. "shine like the sun" is my song of the month (a bit of 'love vigilantes' w/ the doves mixed together). seeing them in nyc mid-november. they're doing a couple of headline shows in nyc & chicago, and opening for the pixies in the same cities. glad to see they're mixing in NO and JD songs, interested in seeing how they sound minus-hooky. let's hope bernard has eased up on the old-man jolly dances and the bizarre tourette-like screams and hollers. coincidently, a rerun of jools holand was on yesterday w/ NO promoting the last album...it was unlistenable IMO with bernard's screaming between versuses. as for the bunnymen album... * i think 'forgotten fields' is a classic. * 'i think i need it too' is a good single. * 'the fountain' would have been great minus the 'down downs' and 'hallelujahs'. and mac's 'oh ahs" during the intro is annoying, similar to how it ruined "seasons" on his solo record (such a great song otherwise). * i really get excited whenever 'do you know what i mean' begins, but the lyrics really ruin it all. * when i listen to the record on random mode, i find myself skipping through many songs, but never 'shroud of turin'...i like it musically, a song that could have fit on "flowers", but very well-produced...though the lyrics are a bit ridiculous. * 'everlasting neverendless' is a pretty good, but mac reverts back to 'don't look down' lyrics which again ruin it. the song builds really well, but the fade-out ending makes it feel unfinished. * 'life of a 1000 crimes' is a mix of slideling-era mac and siberia, but not as good for either. i skip it everytime. * the intro to 'proxy' is annoying, but kicks into a decent pop tune. but i would never have characterized it as a bunnymen song...even post-reformed bunnymen. * 'drivetime' picks up where siberia left off. it's not bad, but the lyrics get repetitive and i end up skipping it mid-song. a bummer because i actually really like to piano outro...it's very sad feeling. * 'the idolness of gods' sounds like a demo, a mac solo b-side, 'slideling' era. * i'm inches away from saying i love 'november', but the 'down down' lyrics completely ruin it. there are small parts of the song that reminds me of 'kiss me kiss me kiss me' album (in a good way) even though i know it sounds nothing like the cure.
