So Mon/Tue last week I'm searching around for the ticket I'm convinced I've bought for the Roundhouse gig without much luck, I even call a few of the usual agencies still no luck and the show is sold out. Night of the gig and I'm still at work at 8.30pm so decide to give the touts and try. Exit at Chalk Farm tube to be confronted by 2 drunken old geezers and manage to get a ticket for a tenner. Straight into venue which is looking pretty packed. Gig started really well with Going Up, Show of Strength, Rescue then Villiers Terrace. Tons of smoke with repeated blasts throughout the night. Mac mentioned something about the reason for them playing was because The Doors had played there, later playing People Are Strangle (saying it was a bit corny to do so beforehand) Will seemed a bit further set back on stage as did the volume of his guitar, at least on some of the songs, particularly Stormy Weather (poor). The drummer was excellent and the bassist was OK though not convinced by his backing vocals. They should ditch that rhythm guitarist (Geordie?) or stick him way back stage, his stage presence is embarrassingly uncool. By total coincidence, couple of days later, I was talking to someone that had caught the Buns at V Fezzie and asked me who the nob was. Main stand out bits from that main set was All That Jazz and The Cutter. There was a very weird video through Killing Moon with a weird floating/flying chick in it - I have a pic in anyone is interested in seeing it. Gig finished with 2 encores Think I Need It Too/Nothing Lasts Forever Zimbo (dedicated to Jake)/Lips Like Sugar All in all quite a good gig (certainly for what I paid), quite a few youngsters in the crowd which was good to see. I thought it was strange that only 2 new songs were played as I thought it had been advertised as a Fountain promo show. After one listen, the standout tracks are 'Think I Need It Too' and 'The Fountain'. I also downloaded the "b-side", 'November' which has some good potential but seems perhaps not quite finished. A good b-side, I guess. I like the photos of the fountains around Liverpool in the booklet. If I ever get there I'll go see how many I can find. Which track on "Siberia" has the line "No more Trevi fountains" ? 'Shroud of Turin' mentions Rimini, which is also in Italy. Has Mac spent a lot of time in Italy? Headed to the Oakland, Calif. "Ocean Rain" show on Thursday. - --Dave ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Oct 2009 08:33:12 +0200 From: Holly & Steve | Exilios en Andalucia Subject: Re: seven-seas Roundhouse Gig cheers for the revue, raj - i didn't even know they were playing there! [i recall a few years back mac said they would do it, but that was the last i knew]. i always held back on my opinions of certain members of the band and their affect on the image of the band [and their vocal contributions!] i thought they ruined the jools appearances vocally and visually! oh dear, i guess we'll get flamed for this! at least they sing better than that blonde guy who ruined many an evergreen era gig! steve g.
