Phew! what a night! As we live in Spain now, there was no way i was going to miss the chance of seeing Ian live over here. We live inland, and looking at the map we decided that the shortest route was directly south, cross-country... BIG MISTAKE four hours of driving along zig-zagging mountain roads! It would only have taken 2 hours if we went the long way! Anyway, the black and white bar is a cosy little bar, black leather sofa style seating, kind of 70's porn movie but with style. Ian came on stage at about 11 and his first set was a great selection of his classics, Hollow Horse, WIACD, LIAWC, Look What she did.., Birds Fly, etc. It never ceases to amaze me how well he still sings, compared with his 80's contemporaries Ian McNabb sounds better now than ever. The second set moved into party mode with a covers heavy set including Oasis, Beatles, Righteous Brothers, Gerry & the Pacemakers, I get the feeling he was responding to some of the crowds suggestions [in my case made during songs - I did get him to change a song midway through one song as I was singing the words of a different, but similar sounding song! - He even passed me the mic to sing part of 'Cigarettes and Alcochol! Once again this highlighted Ian's amazing ability and skill as a musician and an entertainer - he can rock crowds of thousands but also sit and entertain a small crowd of drunken brits in an almost karaoke style. He's planning to play there again next year but as the bar is possibly up for sale, who knows, but I wil be talking to him about the possibility of doing an inland gig if he is over here next year. If you are reading this Ian, thanks, it was a cracker!
