Nobody is ever going to talk about Bloc Party in the year 2030 - they will mean as much as Neds Atomic Dustbin (or to be fair maybe Ride) does now, *also: Neds were nice guys when I met them, (unlike Ride) , I think I met them - or maybe it was just a phone interview - in any event they are maybe even more interesting historically than Ride - for a second or two whereas Ride is historically interesting for exactly one second only) - still some great paint-by-numbers sensual nostalgia in Ride - but ya - one second only, of what matters. But in 2030 - people will still be writing about the Bunnymen, The Fall ,Joy Division/New Order & more importantly, 16 year olds will still be struck with immediate & endless wonder by records like Heaven up Here & Ocean Rain and that wonder will inspire & drive those kids to start a band or start making films, writing or painting - or to just appreciate trees at night and feel sexy and "destined" about themselves at all times ( the greatest gift of all) & that there is some unreachable, unspeakable beauty about life that they will keep trying to reach for and keep trying to talk about (often to the patient exasperation of those around them & perhaps even on certain special lucky occasions, the artists themselves!). Those records will always produce such magic - 500 years from now they will remain as artistically vital and humanly alive - they are truly great works of 20th Century Art - period. - -Ted T - ------ End of Forwarded Message ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 08:50:24 +0100 From: "Pete T" Subject: RE: seven-seas FW: further to TT general rant - again so as a matter of interest, festivals aside, where unless youre the first band on i think thei dea of opener or support gets a bit vague, who have they opened for in recent years? The last tour here included some smaller venues - few hundred I suppose. Saw them at the Zodiac in oxford which is tiny really. On the upside the audience was largely zodiac regulars who probably weren't born first time round but were well into it. On the festival side they're more and more moving up the bill or headlining smaller stages.
