Look up you player here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks might save you a few bucks. alot of them play Pal format too (once rendered region free, or a region free disc) mostly the cheaper ones! Doesn't sound like it makes sense... but most of the bigger manufacturers (sony for instance) run movie studios too... and the region thing was some misguided attempt to control global sales etc. last I read, they killed off this "feature" in the newer high definition formats. If you want my advice... get a Phillips that's divx certified, plays nearly anything You can throw at it, including movie formats downloaded from the internet and burned on cd/dvd. These can be had in a wide range of prices, but a basic one would likely be @ 50$ (dvp642) I have one that does HD upconversion and plays movies from thumb drives that was @ 90$ (dvp5906) Phillips dvd players that aren't divx certified can be had at walmart for @ 30$ all the time. - -Zap ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ **************Bunnymen Online Presence******************** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://www.bunnymenlist.com * http://www.bunnymen.info http://www.bunnymen.com * http://www.fotolog.net/sgtfuzz/ http://www.villiersterrace.com/ * http://www.angelfire.com/wy2/discog/ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stevedoughty/index.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2007 20:51:28 -0700 (PDT) From: David Blewett Subject: Re: seven-seas OT: region free dvd players My appy-polly-loggies if my earlier message wasn't clear. I don't have the Dancing Horses DVD, so I can't comment on its wonderfulness. But if you'd like to avoid having to worry about DVD regions, you might want to get an all-region player. The one I have is a Coby 224-M. It is a cute little silver box, 9 inches wide, 2 inches high, and 9 inches deep - much smaller than the usual player. It plays fine right into my US TV. I've played DVDs from Asia, the UK, and domestic US, plus VCDs. We gave away the Sony we had before. Guys at work who are into movies from Asia advised that the cheap players are often the kind that can be made region-free. I got the Coby at Don Quijote, a Japan-based department store that has 2 or 3 locations here on Oahu. It cost $34.99. aloha, Dave .................... ... .. . Tired of spam? Yahoo!
