If so, try Creative's website: www.creative.com for user manuals and any drivers you might need. I have two Creative mp3 players (one flash drive and one hard drive) and I've been very happy with them. The website also has a forum in case you get really stuck. The FAQ section is very helpful. One word of caution though -- don't download and install any firmware update unless you absolutely have to. The FAQ's will tell you if you need to. From what I've read, some people go nuts downloading the latest firmware and then they don't like the way their player responds. So it's essentially, if it ain't broken don't fix it. As for ripping mp3s from cds, I use the free player from Real Player. I like the way it's possible to edit the info within each audio file. Also, Windows Media Player is okay, but a little hard to use at times for my taste. But WM10 does rip mp3s (not just wma's), so it's useful. I usually stay with the mp3 (192 kbps) format, but wma is okay too. I don't buy that many songs because I'm too cheap and for the most part, most of the music I like I already have on cd. If you do buy (or rent) any songs, you'll need to use WMP (especially if the song is in the wma (windows media audio) format) to transfer the song onto the player because you need to transfer the license with the song file. Otherwise the song won't play on the device. Good luck and enjoy the new toy! But the key to NOT noticing is stay consistent, if you rip in 128 stay in 128 If you have a 128 followed by a 256 you'd be more likely to notice. The source of a lot of my music varies. (some rip/download/itunes/etc) I use a 60gb ipod, and I can't take everything I want with me! I'm probably just a greedy bastard! :) Some people can't hear the difference in remastered cd's either. I just thought that the consistency advice might help - -----Original Message----- From: owner-seven-seas@smoe.org [mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org] On Behalf Of susan dennis Sent: Saturday, April 14, 2007 12:59 PM To: seven-seas@smoe.org Subject: Re: seven-seas-digest V6 #89 That's very good advice, Steve G. and one to remember. Fortunately my hard drive device is 40gb's so file size and space hasn't been an issue. I have ripped to 64 kbps in the wma format for use on my flash drive player since it's only 1 gb, and when you're out and about or on an airplane the difference in sound quality is negligible. Isn't it fun to be a geek? LOL! Susan > >You'd save space and wouldn't realy notice the > difference at 128 kbps. > >Steve G. Tired of spam? Yahoo!
