Sorry, Steve, I agree with it. I'm as much a petrol head as the next person (I've probably owned about 30 vehicles in the past 20 odd years) but something has to be done to get us out of our cars. We need to walk our kids to school instead of ferrying them around as well. The Pay As You Drive idea makes sense to me. Good excuse to take the train and have a few beakers of red wine! I do London Liverpool every few weeks and it only costs me #24 return. I've also got Norwich Union's Pay As You Drive insurance which is great I think, especially if you don't drive between 0700 and 1000. OK it's got a tracker but you also get satnav plus roadside assistance, 999 facility, etc. And I still do my late night blasts on the M53 and haven't been caught yet. Regarding the new PAYD tax system apparently if you're a special case (rural location, etc) I think you can get extra personal tax alowances. >Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 16:47:20 -0000 >From: "Steve Griffiths" >Subject: > >Hi All, apologies for sending this and those outside of the uk but it >affects >us all in the uk and a lot of us drive great distances to go to gigs, etc. > >Steve G. > > > > THIS IS IN ALL OUR INTERESTS TO SIGN TO STOP THE GOVERNMENTS NEW ROAD >TAX! > > > > > > > Please sign the petition!!! > > > (otherwise you'll be walking to work or paying a fortune for the > > > privelidge to drive!!!) > > > > > > > > If you drive a car, please read - > > > > > > Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio >2. > > > Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection > > > to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax. > > > > > > The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell > > > anybody about it.
