Similar to Mac's Sinatra worship this guy is a hell of a singer. Kinda seedy and not a macho mac, but 'if you go away' is up there with the heavy hitters grr Almond's collection is definitely one for the ages--also worth checking out is a collection of Scott Walker singing Brel stuff--it might be called "Brel" or "Jaques" or something similar. Walker was a huge influence on Almond, and Mac has professed an admiration for him, if not a passion. People might remember Scott Walker as the lugubrious voice behind such 60's classics as "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "Make It Easy On Yourself" (written by Bacharach, but made famous by the Walker Bros.--the latter, at least.) Julian Cope once put out an album called "Fire Escape In the Sky: The Godlike Genius of Scott Walker." Cope doesn't like him anymore, apparently, but it was a hell of a collection. "Montague Terrace in Blue" is simply massive. - --Chris Adams - ----- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe seven-seas or unsubscribe seven-seas-digest to get off the digest Will the last one to leave the list please turn out the lights? - ----- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe seven-seas or unsubscribe seven-seas-digest to get off the digest Will the last one to leave the list please turn out the lights? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 10:52:51 -0800 From: "MCH" Subject: Re: seven-seas Killing Moon used on tv interview This all tarnishes the image of the song. Speaking of EATB showing up on the television, I dunno how many of you watch the show Gilmore Girls, but I absolustely love this show! Anyway, it's about a young mother and teenage daughter who are more like best friends than mother and daughter. There are a few scenes where they go into the mother's old room (Mom's and Dad's mansion) and there hanging above her bed is a poster of EATB (Ocean Rain era?). I thought this made the show even more enjoyable. Yeah, every time the camera focus on the soccer ball in the air, Mac sings "Killing Moon." Then they all sing it on the 700 Club. I know most lists don't do the "friends helping friends" kind of thing. But, do you have the special program for getting the list's snail mail addresses converted from e-mail? Remember, you don't have to send everyone a dollar, just if the people you e-mail privately respond yes and they aren't against this sort of thing (I think it's mostly the people favoring fox hunting who indulge). Also make sure you change the one dollar to proper pound/peso/lira/yen or whatever monetary unit is favored in listees country of citizenry.
