Got a call from Will while I was at work today (gotta tell you, it's kinda fucking surreal, still). He was just back from pub, and I was about on my way...now I'm home...sorry if this runs on a bit, but I'm feeling no pain...Manhattans and a couple pints of stout. The album is getting close to being "in the can". Some vocals yet to be recorded. Mac wants to do them at the studio where Evergreen was recorded. problem is, with the rain as it's been, the place ha got 6 inches of water in it. They're taking a break in the recording until perhaps mid-January, where they'll perhaps finish recording in a studio up in Wales that Peasy's lining up. Peasy (he's put in his dues) and a dude named Peter are the new management team. The band's got some festivals lined up for summer, notably in Spain. As far as the sound goes, The Doors, Velvets and Television were mentioned. Will says it's very "sixties", a bit psychedelic, with lots of weird noises. No orchestra. Will says a Stylophone, Wurlitzer organ and Fender Rhodes will all be heard, and he's been playing quite the array of guitars. Look forward to that "bubbly" Electrafixion guitar sound as well. I asked what he used to make the bubble sound, and he said it was a standard wah, but you 'wobble it with your foot really fast'. For the guitar-o-philes, to date Will has played:the Country Gentleman, Rickenbacker 12-string, Vox 12-string, Gretsch, Mac's legendary Telecaster, "Pinky" (Will says he's actually played this one on several albums) His blue Stratocaster, and what sounded like Will's pride and joy, a 1968 or 69 Martin electric acoustic that he found in L.A. at a place called Black Market Music. He said it cost him about $800. He took it to a guy in Liverpool who cleaned it up, replaced the bridge. Guy says the thing's worth about 2000 quid. Once again, Will says it's a bit "Crocodiles", and that everyone who's heard it really digs it. Looking like a possible May release date. "Gentlemen's Relish, the extravaganza set for 31 January (see the Glide site at http://www.glide-hub.cwc.net will probably undergo a name-change, as it seems a televison show is soon to be aired under the same name. Look for the Bunnymen to perform a benefit show for the Liverpool Arts program, which will be recorded for the band's first proper "live" album. (Live At the BBC was a Windsong imprint, which Will never even got a copy of) Erm...what else...oh yeah...Peasy's set up a Post box for the band, so go ahead and send along your well wishes and baskets of fruit (and cash)to: Oy, Peasy! pass this along to the BunnyDudes P.O. Box 88 Prescott L34 2UW UK That's all I've got, everybody. Be good to each other. Oh, and THREE CHEERS FOR PEASY!
