Ummm....that was something I forgot to mention last week. When I asked the "Insider" about the gig, he'd mentioned that it was rescheduled. The reason: seems he has an arts fellowship with the University. The gig is actually a sort of benefit for the arts programme. As the students are on holiday, it was thought appropriate to postpone to late January so the students may attend, and generally so they can draw a larger crowd. - -Ivan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Burnand" > Just been on the Glide site and guess what, the date of the Glide / Skyray > live happening in Liverpool has changed (yet again)! Hello, can you hear me? bz.. gzort... Alright, I've got lock on. I'm gonna try a transmission. Hopefully they'll be able to hear me... Hey kids! It's the Prodigal Son, home from the wars... ;) I know I owe you all an explanation and an apology the size of North Dakota for my protracted absence. Herein I will do my best to go some length towards that. Let me say as prologue that I: - - have not gone insane - - have not been on a bender - - still love you Sometime a while back, like September, I got a new job. Actually, I got drafted for a new endeavor, which landed in my lap quite suddenly and is, plainly, an opportunity unlike any other. But "drafted" is definitely the operative word. I am now Chief Multimedia Architect at Broadvision. They make the software engine that powers many of the Fortune 500's web sites. Their specialty is personalization. If you want to read more about them, the site is http://www.broadvision.com. Broadvision is not known for multimedia, and we're not about to compete with companies who are. This new group will explore the latest innovations in "User Experience" technology, especially as they pertain to enabling the higher capabilities of BV software. When we come up with something, we'll share it openly with everyone. It's kind of like a startup company within a larger company, which is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that we don't have to go scrounging for venture capital money. The curse is that it's like a startup company -- extremely intense, long days. The effort has expanded like a vapor to fill all available space, or more accurately, time. Whatever time I've had remaining has been filled by another expanding vapor -- putting out the new BENTMEN album. I don't know how many of you have personally had the experience of releasing an album, but let me tell you -- it's a heck of a lot of work! The good news is that our album comes out Dec. 5th (it rawks!) and a major promotional campaign is about to get underway. We're going to be live on the radio (and the web) *tonight* -- details in a separate e-mail. Rather than put you through all the machinations involved, let me cut to the information that is most pertinent and timely to all of you: In light of all of this, I have asked Ivan Smith to take over the day to day workings of the EATB site, and he has graciously accepted. He is in direct contact with the band. I will provide graphics, animations and multimedia whenever I can. Will has also expressed an interest in getting directly involved, so we may be giving him his own MTV. ;) There will be a site overhaul and there will be a new version of World Wide Glide, although lately I have been adapting the underlying software engine for live performance. I also hope to do some installations, projects and performances in Europe next year with Will, as well as, separately, with Graham Lewis from Wire. I've also been contributing drum tracks and loops to Colin Newman, also from Wire, for his various nefarious purposes. I feel *really bad* about the whole GimmeMusic debacle, but it was completely out of my hands. That happened right at the most crucial juncture with our efforts at Broadvision and there was zero bandwidth. I've barely seen my wife & daughter in the last two months. The other thing that happened is a very close frind of mine, one of the original members of my 21st Century Art consortium, died suddenly. So on top of all the frantic mania that was happening with work and my band, I was dealing with profound grief. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;) I hope you all know that, especially after all the work I've put into it over the years, that there is no way that I would just up and leave, especially during a record release, unless something impenetrable was keeping me away. It was. But in the long run, I have no doubt it will all be a very good thing for all of us. More later. best, FBC - ----- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe seven-seas or unsubscribe seven-seas-digest to get off the digest Carnahan '00--finally objective proof that the best politician is a deceased one. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Dec 2000 14:15:20 -0500 From: Frank Coleman Subject: seven-seas OT: BENTMEN CD RELEASE PARTY 12/9! This is a show of Biblical proportions. It's about time they were recognized as one of the most dynamic and imaginative musical shows ever." - - Stuff Magazine "There is something mythological and legendary about BENTMEN. The talent and virtuosity of this band are not illusory. Here is a set of musicians different from any other band present on the scene today, with a message and purpose that is both unique and standard-setting in its sensuality and emotional impact." - - A. J. Wachtel, Boston Rock "...bits and pieces of Peter Gabriel, Foster Brooks, Lost in Space, National Geopgraphic, Santa Claus, Ivanhoe, Broadway, Mrs. Beasley, Leif Ericson, Berlin-era Bowie, Eno, M*A*S*H, Captain Beefheart and the flag desecratrion issue appeared on stage at The Rat before a crowd of patrons squirming in anticipation..." - The Noise "This is the only band that has SET ME ON FIRE with one of their props and I still love them!" - - T. Max, Editor, The Noise "What's in the bag? Dead meat. It's a present from BENTMEN." - - Boston Rock "...Every strange, sick, perverted, maniacal thought you ever had about BENTMEN is absolutely true... BENTMEN explore the subconciously evil, mentally ill side of doom rock. What kind of weirdos ARE these people??" - - Warm Vinyl "A great band. I'd take my mom to go see them!" - - Shred, WBCN "Genius!" - - Juanita, The Scene Queen, WBCN "...(at the Boston Music Awards), there was lots of glitz and glamour, with many awards and performances including Aerosmith, Donnie Wahlberg, Guster, The Dambuilders and Morphine, but my hands-down favorite was BENTMEN." - - Joyce Kulhawik, WBZ-TV "Accomplished musicianship... more intense and outrageous than The Residents and GWAR combined!" - - The Knot "It's only a matter of time before BENTMEN will be seen on TV. With hooks as big as Nirvana's, the driving industrial edge of Ministry and a stage show more intense than Green Jello or The Blue Man Group, it won't be long before they will be internationally known!" - - The Beat "Everything with BENTMEN is a spectacle. Their performance at the Institute of Contemporary Art's music festival proved by far to be the best, leaving African Headcharge, Danielle Dax and the German bands in their wake." - The Boston Phoenix "Intense music, madcap live shows... this band is going places" - - Rich Kennedy, WZBC "The intensity and raw talent of BENTMEN alone warrants them an audience a thousand times the size of their already huge and loyal following. However, add to that a theater show equal parts P. T. Barnum and Timothy Leary, truly progressive and individual music... BENTMEN are a tasty pill and there's no need for force feeding." - - Joe Bonni, The Weekly Dig "Even I won't wear what those f***ers were wearing" - - Steven Tyler, Aerosmith - --- Press Contact: Rhonda Kelley Rainmaker Productions 617.556.0142 - --- FR A N K C O L E M A N Chief Multimedia Architect > BroadVision Metaphysical Advisor > The Fright Channel Webmanster > http://www.bunnymen.com Co-Founder > Beat Theater Member > Bentmen Box 382 > Needham > Massachusetts > 02492 > US of A > 781.ILL.OXEN > aka > 781.455.6936 Never underestimate the power of a blind and ignorant electorate. - ----- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe seven-seas or unsubscribe seven-seas-digest to get off the digest Carnahan '00--finally objective proof that the best politician is a deceased one. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Dec 2000 13:46:22 -0600 From: "Prince of Happiness" Subject: Re: seven-seas O/T Help!!!
