It rocked. I have some live stuff from their heyday, and it blew all of that away. Great playlist and very powerful. I hope most of you are considerably more lively than I am this morning. BUT, my weariness is for a very, very good reason and I just have to share it with you. Saturday night I took a huge chance and went to see Peter Murphy. AMAZING. I swear, if you have a chance and you even remotely dug his solo career, catch this tour. He's in TOP form - he sounds amazing, he looks great, and he is still totally capable of casting a spell over people. I didn't shift position for the whole show - I was completely captivated. No Bauhaus tunes, just a smattering from each solo album and a couple of new songs. But then it was topped on Sunday and last night by the Chameleons. WOW. I'm not sure what to even say. Burgess sounds GREAT and seeing the whole band together for the first time in 10 years totally blew me away. The set both nights was largely the same (sadly lacking "Tears" and "Mad Jack" which made me a little sad, but I'm certainly not about to complain!) But, and this will astound people in SF who know venues, the sound at Slim's last night was head and shoulders above the sound at The Great American Music Hall. I was nearly moved to tears hearing them sound so brilliant and seeing how happy Burgess obviously was to be finally playing as a proper band again. Anyway, I just had to share, because I haven't been this completely awed three nights in a row..... God, maybe ever. Positively woke my soul up again - and it was dead tired for awhile there. ;-) Oh, and then came in this morning to a pollstar.com update announcing Coldplay dates! Life is good. Cheers, Anne Yahoo! The Friday show at the Troubadour was superb. I went in with high expectations and was still blown away. There's just something about a couple of talented guitarists, who know how put all those tricky effects (delay, echo, etc.) to good use, plus a tight rhythm section, plus a decent vocalist, plus a small club with a good sound system, that seems to go over well with me. The only downside was that the show seemed to be the hot ticket that night, so there was a higher than normal quota of assholes in the audience (sit at the bar and talk on their cell phones until the headliner comes on, then push their way to the front). Usually the crowd at the Troubadour is fairly asshole-free. The highlight of the evening, other than the music, came when I was standing in line to get in to the club and a woman came down the line looking for extra tickets. She was telling everyone that her boyfriend was "in the music industry" but still hadn't been able to get tickets. I confess to enjoying the thought of a music industry weasel (and his girlfriend) being shut out of a show because actual fans had purchased all the tickets. My apologies to any non-weasel types who may be employed in "the industry." Of course, she was able to buy tickets from someone in line ahead of me, paying about twice face value. I posted this morning that I'd seen both of the San Francisco shows. They were superb. I totally agree with you - musicianship and showmanship (last night Burgess was just completely outside of himself for the last few songs - you could see that he was on another plane) were at an all time high. The arse factor here wasn't too bad - the first night was sold out and seemed to be mostly hard core fans, last night was full but not packed and was just the serious devotees, I think. But I've never seen so many irritating people as at the Peter Murphy gig on Saturday. Classic line - my friend shushed the idiots in front of us who were chatting loudly and using their mobile phone during the gig and one of the dimwit girls told him with a vacant smile "it's because it's unplugged - if it weren't an acoustic show, you wouldn't be able to hear us."
