This EP is the best music the Bunnymen has put together on the first listen since "Songs To Learn & Sing". All the music since then has been slightly disappointing to me on the first listen. Althought, I've fallen head over heels in love with WAYGTGWYL after 5 months and now consider it to be one of their masterpieces. Due to my change in attitude about WAYGTGWYL perhaps has a big influence on why I like to two new songs "Hang On To A Dream" and "Avalanche". Although neither are Classic Bunnymen. "Avalanche" has something that is catchy and upbeat, slight as it is lyrically. "All My Colours" and "Silver" are great re-interpretations. "Angels & Devils" on first listen reminded me of Caligari's version on the tribute, but after severals listens I was able to distinquish the three versions. Although it made me think of The Verve's situation with "Bittersweet Symphony" and raise a hypothetical question -- Couldn't Caligari sue the Bunnymen if the two versions sound so much alike? What an ironic situation!!! "Baby Blue" is another great cover version. I first heard this on the "On Strike" boot back in 1986 and thought all those cover songs were great and I especially loved this one. Shortly thereafter, I tracked down Bob Dylan's version and was floored at the difference. The Bunnymen's version was a hundred times superior version, but in 1990 I started getting into Van Morrison's music and became disappointed when I found out that the Bunnymen actually copied Morrison's version and didn't do something original, but it's still a great song!! The Cover Art is terrific -- glad to the see the Bunnygod on an official release besides the "Read It In Books" 7". My only complaint about the cd is the lack of liner notes. I got a kick out of the email address for communication and "disinformation". The CD is certainly well made product from someone who had such problems with their website. Granted that the EP was more expensive than normal, but in the end it's worth it, -- RIGHT!!!! I would rather have it than not have it and here's looking forward to the live album and the new release in the future. Anybody know what the number of pressings were for this release? I still feel that the tribute is one of the best things I've heard this year official or unofficial -- it just blows my socks off at how good this disc is. Oddly enough when I first heard Caligari's versions of "Angels & Devils". I felt they were a great re-interpretation of the classic song, but vastly different from the Bunnymen -- now in my mind with Avalanche's version sounding so much alike in spirit to Caligari's -- now i'm not sure what I think. Does anyone else agree with the similarities or is it just me? Well, I like Caligari's slower version of that song the best, and can't recall the other one at the moment, which has to be the one you're referring to, because I don't think the slower one sounds at all like the new Bunnymen version. I'm popping it in right now... Nah! There's a big difference in the guitar! The Bunny's is a bit more trippy. And Caligari's is faster...has a more dominant guitar track. I can tell the difference. I personally favor Caligari's slow one (Track 4) over all of them. It's that haunting bass line! Hi Gang, Before Gimmemusic was actually on the scene, I remember from reading on this list that the Bunnymen were to put out a limited edition EP and a live album. So I'm assuming that this EP was actually the limited edition one. That's the main reason why I asked about the number of releases for Avalanche. Since it doesn't appear to be a limited edition, just an independent release. So I'm hoping that they keep their word about a live album. Anyone have any further information?
